2. Heute erzähle ich euch von einem Essen, das schon etwas ungewöhnlich aussieht und
wenn man die Zutaten anschaut, wird es auch nicht gerade appetitlich. Aber egal wie es
aussieht oder was für einen seltsamen Namen das Essen auch hat, zumindest
schmeckt es vielen Menschen in Deutschland. Die Rede ist von „Tote Oma".

3. Also der offizielle Name ist wohl „Grützwurst", aber wenn ich euch erzähle, aus was
Grützwurst besteht, dann werdet ihr mir sicher zustimmen, dass es verständlich ist,
warum viele Menschen zu diesem Essen auch „Tote Oma" sagen. Grützwurst ist eine Art
Wurst, die aus gewürztem Blut und Schwarte besteht. Beides wird meist vom Schwein
genommen. Je nach Region werden dann noch Speck, Rosinen, Graupen, Zwiebeln
oder andere Innereien beigefügt.

4. In der Region um Köln herum wird „Tote Oma" zusammen mit Kartoffelbrei und
Apfelmus serviert. Dieses Gericht nennt sich dann „Himmel und Hölle". Ansonsten kann
man „Tote Oma" auch mit Sauerkraut und Salzkartoffeln essen.

5. Wem die Bezeichnung „Tote Oma" nicht gefällt, der kann auch „Verkehrsunfall" zu dem
Essen sagen. Die Bezeichnungen „Verkehrsunfall" und „Tote Oma" stammen wohl
daher, dass die Wurst zum Essen meist erwärmt wird. Dadurch verliert sie ihre feste
Form und es entsteht eine Art Brei, was den Anblick nicht unbedingt appetitlicher macht,
aber zumindest die seltsamen Namen erklärt.

6. Als Kind habe ich mich immer vor „Toter Oma" geekelt und konnte gar nicht verstehen,
warum mein Vater es so gerne isst. Mittlerweile habe ich kein Problem mehr mit dem
seltsamen Aussehen und esse gerne mal ein wenig Grützwurst mit Kartoffeln. Aber die
Namen finde ich immer noch seltsam. Kann sich da nicht mal jemand etwas besseres
einfallen lassen?

2. Today I'll tell you about a dish that looks pretty unusual, and looking at the ingredients
won't make it any more appetizing. But despite the way it looks, and its strange name,
there are still many people in Germany that love it. We're talking about something called
"Dead Grandma".

3. So, the official name is actually "Grützwurst", but once I tell you what Grützwurst is made
of, then you'll certainly agree that it's understandable why many people also call it "Dead
Grandma". Grützwurst is a type of sausage that's made of blood and rind. Both are
mostly from pigs. Depending on the region, there will also be bacon, raisins, pearl barley,
onions, or entrails.

4. In the area around Cologne, "Dead Grandma" is served along with mashed potatoes
and apple sauce. This dish is called "Heaven and Hell". Besides that, you can also eat
"Dead Grandma" with sauerkraut and boiled potatoes.

5. For people who don't like the label "Dead Grandma", another name for it is "Traffic
Accident". The terms "Traffic Accident" and "Dead Grandma" probably come from the fact
that this sausage is usually eaten warm. That way it loses its solid form and turns into a
sort of mush, which makes the sight of it rather unappetizing, but at least it explains the
strange name.

6. As a kid, I was always grossed out by "Dead Grandma", and I couldn't understand why
my father loved it so much. By now I don't have a problem with its appearance anymore,
and I enjoy eating a bit of Grützwurst with potatoes. But the name still strikes me as weird.
Can't someone think of something better to call it?
