chen bekannt.
Gerbeaud

Time-honoured philosophy
The man who gave his name to the
caf insisted that recipes should never
be secret. It is not the recipe that
makes a good cake but
expertise and highquality ingredients, he
believed. Gerbeaud was
also the one to introduce
innovations to the cafs
daily business.
The management is
drawing on that philosophy today by returning
to traditional recipes and
updating them. It
stresses that it uses
only the very best
ingredients in its
cakes. The quality of
service is excellent and
the knowledge of the
waiting staff is exemplary. Orders are taken
in a friendly manner
and waiting times are
generally short.
Mini confectionery
The small confectionery inside
the caf is constantly working on
delicacies and making sure that all
the cakes get to the tables fresh. The
only downside can sometimes be the
waiting times but they are usually
made up for by the heavenly taste of
the cakes. The base of the caramel
slice is tangy like sherbet and evokes
long-forgotten childhood memories.
The well-known Eszterhzy cake has
a new appearance but still tastes
very sweet and contains a layer of
brittle. The traditional Dobos cake is
joined by cakes containing fruits of
the season. Strawberries taste
wonderfully fresh in a curd cheese
mixture with a hint of rosemary.
Later in the year red currants and
raspberries will be used.
ice-cream in many
flavours that can be
eaten in Gerbeauds
own cones or in delicious sundaes and
shakes. There are light
and fluffy savoury
pastries, and many
types of pralines and
macaroons, which are
starting to catch on in
Hungary. The cakes
are beautifully presented and will
leave guests wanting more.
Luckily its possible to buy cakes to
take home (the caf gives a five per
cent discount if you buy more than
five) as well as gift boxes full of
pralines, cakes and sweets.
