Study of Solar Installation parameters through

Videos.
AIM: To Study the solar videos and answer the questions present.

APPARATUS: Educational Video on Solar Panels

Q1) Difference between net metering and gross metering?

Ans: Net metering
The user consumes electricity generated by the rooftop solar system and excess electricity
is injected into the grid. For any additional requirement over and above the solar
generation, energy can be imported from the grid. At the end of the settlement period, the
consumer is only imported from the grid (Disco) the difference between solar energy
generated and total energy consumed over the billing period
Gross metering
In gross metering, total electricity generated by the solar System is injected into the grid,
and consumer imports Electricity from the grid for consumption at retail tariff. At the end
of the settlement period, consumer is Compensated for the electricity exported to the grid at
Feed-in-Tariff (FiT), as determined by the state Commission.

Q2) how much time machine or appliance worked?

Ans:
Total amount of done by a machine= power( Watt) × Duration ( hours)
5 watt× 5 hrs per day = 25 W- hrs per day.
Led bulb electricity energy consumption per day
10W × 10 Hrs every day= 100 WHr everyday.
Led bulb electricity energy consumption per month
10W × 10 Hrs every day × 30 days= 3000 WHr per month
Geyser electricity consumption per day
2000W × 1 hr everyday= 2000 WHr everyday
Geyser electricity consumption per month
2000W × 1 hr × 30 days= 60000 WHr per month
1kWhr = 1 unit electricity
Common unit of Electricity is KWHr
1000 WHr = 1 kWHr
2000 WHr = 2 kWHr

15,000 WHr = 15 kWHr

Q3)) How much electricity is consumed by by your home appliances in a month?

Q4) What is per unit electricity charges?

Ans: Total Charges Units Consumed378.37 ÷49= 7.72 Rs per unit

Q5)What is the price of solar panel?

Ans:
Typical price of panels for small quantities is 25 to 30 Rs per Watt.(0.32 to 0.38 $ per Watt)

Q6) What would the rate of Solar electricity?

Q7) If your panel requirement is 1500 Watt and panel efficiency is 16%, then what
will be solar panel area?
Ans:
Requirement of house = 1500 Watt
16% efficiency → 1500÷ 160 W/ m^2
Total solar panel area =9.375m²

Q 8)A battery has a ratings of 11.1V, 15000mAh calculate the energy stored in the
battery?
Ans:
Suppose 11.1 V x 1.5 Ah = 16.65 Wh
Depth of Discharge is 80-90%
16.65 x 0.90 = 40.985 Wh would be available

Q9)A Li-ion battery has depth of discharge of 80%. The house requires 1500 Wh of
energy daily. Then, how much energy should be stored in Li- ion batteries?
Ans:
1500 x 0.8 = 1200 Wh would be available

Q10) If input voltage rating of a charge controller is 24V and current rating is 8 A
then what is its power rating?
Ans:
The power rating of charge controller=24*8=192watt.

Q11) Why dc based solar system are better for homes then ac based solar system?
Ans:
The DC based solar system are better as dc system is more efficient, low cost.

Q14) Calculate running cost per year for the appliances given below.assuming unit
cost as Rs.6
Ans:
For AC power appliances:
Tubelight:40*6*3=720wh
Fan =55*10*3=1100wh
Tv : 35*6*1=210wh
Refrigerator:120*24*1=2880 wh
Ac:1400*3*1=4200wh
Total of all the appliances=720+1100+210+2880+4200=9110wh
9.1 unit per day*365 days
=3225.16 unit per day
Taking Unit Cost as Rs 6

Therefore, 3225.16 x Rs 6
= Rs 19950 per Year

For DC power appliances

1. Tubelight: 18*6x3 = 334 Wh

2. Fan: 25*10*2 = 500 Wh
3. TV: 23*6*1 = 138 Wh
4. Refrigerator: 60x*24*1 = 1440 Wh
5. AC: 900*3*1 = 2700 Wh
Total: 334+500+138+1440+2700 = 5102 Wh
= 5.1 Unit per day * 365 days
= 1861 Unit per Year
Taking Unit as Rs 6
= 1861*6
= Rs 169 per Year
The difference between AC and DC system is Rs
8781
