STEULER Adhesive System 4

1. General Properties

The STEULER Adhesive System 4 consists of the components Steuler Primer P 4, Steuler
Adhesive K 4 and Steuler Hardener H 3 and is used for bonding of pre-vulcanised Steuler
soft rubber sheets onto steel and concrete substrates. Furthermore, non vulcanised soft
rubber sheets on base of chloroprene rubber can be installed on site with this adhesive
system. The Steuler Adhesive 4 has a long application window, a long contact-adhesive
time as well as a high building tack. Furthermore, this adhesive system is CHC-free and
features high bond strength values.

2. Product Description

Steuler Primer P 4: Special polymers dissolved in solvent

Steuler Adhesive K 4: Chloroprene rubber (CR) dissolved in solvent
Steuler Hardener H 3: Thiophosphate in solvent

3. Application Conditions:

The following application conditions are imperatively to be observed:

Application temperature: +10 up to +40° C

Relative humidity: max. 60% when priming
max. 80% when applying adhesive
Distance to Dew point: min. 3 K
All packages have to be adapted to the temperature at the workplace at least 24 hours
before application.

3.1 Primer

After the substrate preparation as described in the pertinent Technical Information Sheet of
the rubber sheets, the one-component primer Steuler Primer P 4 is applied.
Note: On stainless steel substrates Steuler Primer P 2A must be used.

For spray-application, Primer P 4 has to be diluted with Steuler Cleaner CE.

3.2 Adhesive Mixture

The adhesive mixture, consisting of Steuler Adhesive K 4 and Steuler Hardener H 3, is

thoroughly mixed and applied onto the primed substrate and/or the correspondent side of
the rubber sheet. To obtain a homogeneous mixture, the Hardener H 3 has to be stirred for
at least 1 min. into the Adhesive K 4.

The max.pot life of the prepared adhesive mixture is 4 hours.

Mixing ratio: 1000 g Adhesive K 4/40 g Hardener H 3

3.2.2 Application of Adhesive Mixture onto Rubber sheet

Type: Adhesive K 4 / Hardener H 3

Colour: Blue

Application Method: Painting / rolling

Number of coats: 1

Drying time: min. 30 minutes, max. 60 minutes

Consumption: Approx. 0,20 kg/m² per coat

The drying times given above refer to an ambient temperature of +20° C and 65% relative
humidity. After the minimum drying times, the rubber sheet is covered with a linen or PE-
sheet and rolled. The real necessary drying times depend on the site conditions.

The linen has to be washed, ironed (free from pleats) and free from threads and fluff.

4. Cleaning
For cleaning of equipment, use Steuler Universalreiniger.

5. Shelf Life

Shelf Life at a storage temperature of +20° C in closed original containers under observance
of the storage conditions acc. to DIN 7716.

Steuler Adhesive K 4: 24 months
Steuler Hardener H 3: 12 months
Steuler Cleaner CE: 24 months
Steuler Universalreiniger: 24 months

Higher storage temperatures reduce the shelf life.
