Wir freuen uns, Ihnen mit diesem Update-Paket einige von vielen Kunden gewnschte neue Funktionen fr Ihren AXON zur Verfgung zu stellen. Dieses Dokument ist als Ergnzung zu Ihrem Handbuch gedacht.

Editieren der Namen fr Guitar 1-8

Die Bezeichnungen Guitar 1 bis Guitar 8 fr die 8 verfgbaren Instrumenten-Einstellungen auf der Global-Seite des Editors knnen jetzt umbenannt werden. Klicken Sie dazu mit der rechten Maustaste auf den Tabulator. Es erscheint ein Men mit dem einzigen Eintrag Rename. Whlen Sie diesen aus und geben Sie einen beliebigen Namen fr das Instrument an (z.B. Stratocaster mit PU100 oder Godin Freeway SA).

Bitte beachten Sie, dass diese Namen nur auf dem Computer, nicht aber im AXON gespeichert werden. Daher erscheinen sie nicht, wenn Sie den AXON an einen anderen Computer anschlieen. Des Weiteren bleibt die unter Global Guitar No. ausgewhlte Instrumenten-Einstellung jetzt im Tabulator markiert, auch wenn gerade ein anderes Instrument verwendet wird.

Graphische Darstellung von Trigger Level und Note Off Limit

Um die Bedeutung der Einstellungen Trigger Level und Note Off Limit zu verdeutlichen, wurde auf der Global-Seite des Editors eine graphische Darstellung dieser Parameter hinzugefgt. Schematisch dargestellt ist der Lautstrke-Verlauf des Gitarrentons, sowie Beginn und Ende der erzeugten MIDI Note.

Wie nun leicht zu erkennen ist, muss bei hherem Trigger Level ein lauterer Gitarrenton gespielt werden. Ein hheres Note Off Limit bewirkt, dass die MIDI Note frher beendet wird.

Pedal Kalibrierung im Editor (nur AX 100 MKII)

Die Kalibrierung der Schwellerpedale EXP-1 und EXP-2 am AX 100 MKII kann nun auch aus dem Editor heraus vorgenommen werden. Bisher war dies nur ber den Eintrag PEDALSENS im GLOBAL Men am Gert mglich. Klicken Sie auf den Schalter EXP-1 bzw. EXP-2 unter Pedal calibration und folgen Sie den Anweisungen auf dem Bildschirm.

Connect-Mode Schalter beim AX 100 MKII Mac Editor

Da mit einigen MIDI Interfaces am Mac Probleme auftraten, gibt es nun 2 Varianten, wie der Editor sich mit dem AX 100 MKII verbindet. Dazu finden Sie neben der Connect Taste eine Auswahl Mode A oder Mode B. Falls Mode A mit Ihrem MIDI Interface nicht funktioniert, verwenden Sie bitte Mode B. Der Unterschied besteht darin, dass in Mode A jedes Preset einzeln bertragen wird und in Mode B alle Presets in einem groen Block bertragen werden. Hinweis: Diese Funktion ist beim AX 50 USB sowie im PC Editor nicht verfgbar, da nicht erforderlich.

Holdmode Sustain
Im Holdmode "Sustain" werden bei getretenem Hold-Pedal alle MIDI-Noten solange gehalten, bis das Pedal losgelassen wird. Dies ist das Verhalten, das man von einem Haltepedal (Sustain pedal) am Klavier gewohnt ist. Eine sehr hnliche Funktion ist zwar bisher mit dem AXON auch schon mglich (Holdmode Control mit Holdcontrol Damper Pedal On/Off oder MIDI-Pedal mit CC#64 am MIDI In), funktioniert aber mit den meisten Notations-Programmen nicht erwartungsgem, da diese den Controller ignorieren. Der Ton wird mit dieser Methode zwar auch hrbar gehalten, die geschriebenen Noten sind aber nur so lang, wie sie an der Gitarre ausklingen. Der Holdmode Sustain ermglicht es nun also auch mit der Gitarre, beliebig lange Noten in einen Sequenzer oder eine Notations-Software einzuspielen.

Holdmode Common
Dieser Modus ist Besitzern des AX 100 MKII bereits bekannt. Bei gedrcktem Hold-Pedal werden keine weiteren MIDI Daten gesendet. Ein vorher gespielter Akkord wird solange von Ihrem MIDI Instrument ausgegeben, bis Sie das Holdpedal wieder loslassen. Ebenso realisieren Sie hiermit eine Art Bypass-Funktion, d.h. solange Sie in diesem Modus das Holdpedal gedrckt halten, wird Ihr AXON keine weiteren MIDI-Daten ausgeben.

Verwenden eines MIDI-Pedals am AX 50 USB

Um die neue Holdmode-Funktion am AX 50 USB nutzen zu knnen, bentigen Sie ein MIDIPedal, das Sie mit dem MIDI-In des AXON verbinden.

Die genaue Vorgehensweise entnehmen Sie bitte der Bedienungsanleitung Ihres MIDIPedals.

Vereinfachte Preset-Auswahl (nur PC Editor)

Die aufflligste nderung auf der Preset Seite (nur PC Version) betrifft die Auswahl und das Abspeichern der Presets. Zur Auswahl braucht jetzt nur noch ein Preset aus der Liste gewhlt werden. Die zustzliche Get Preset Taste wurde entfernt. Beim Abspeichern eines Preset drckt man nun zuerst auf die Store Preset Taste und whlt anschlieend den gewnschten Speicherplatz aus.

Kopieren von Einstellungen auf einzelne oder alle Presets

Fr die meisten Elemente auf der Preset-Seite wurde ein Kontext-Men ergnzt, das Sie mit der rechten Maustaste erreichen. ber diese Mens ist es nun mglich, einzelne Einstellungen fr andere oder fr alle Presets zu bernehmen:

Copy to Preset...: Die Einstellung wird in ein auszuwhlendes Preset kopiert. Copy to all Presets: Die Einstellung wird in allen Presets auf denselben Wert gesetzt.

Bei den Einstellungen im Split/Layer Bereich sieht das Men etwas anders aus:

Copy to all Splits/Layers: Setzt die Einstellung fr alle Splits und Layer auf denselben Wert. Das Preset muss noch manuell abgespeichert werden. Copy to all Splits/Layers in Preset...: Die Einstellung wird fr alle Splits und Layer im auszuwhlenden Preset bernommen. Copy to all Splits/Layers in all Presets: Die Einstellung wird fr alle Splits und Layer in allen Presets bernommen.

Soundauswahl ber Namen (Cubase Patchscripts)

Bisher kannte der Editor nur die Soundnamen nach General MIDI (GM) Standard und die Namen des eingebauten WAVE XTABLE Soundboards beim AX100 MKII. Um anderen Synthesizern die gewnschten Klnge zu entlocken war in der Regel ein Blick ins Handbuch des Klangerzeugers ntig, um die passenden MIDI Programchange und Bankselect MSB/LSB Nummern heraus zu suchen. Diese Arbeit kann Ihnen der Editor nun abnehmen. Dazu bentigen Sie die Sound-Liste des Synthesizers im Cubase Patchscript Format. Sie finden entsprechende Dateien fr diverse Instrumente im Unterordner Patchnames/ des Editor-Installationverzeichnisses. Sollte Ihr Instrument nicht dabei sein, suchen Sie einfach mal nach patchscript und dem Namen Ihres Klangerzeugers im Internet. Von Steinberg gibt es auerdem einen Editor namens Patchname Script Maker, mit dem sich solche Listen bequem selber erstellen und bearbeiten lassen. Zu finden unter: ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/ Whlen Sie im Kontext-Men der Instrumentenauswahl den Eintrag Load patch list und ffnen Sie die gewnschte Script-Datei (*.txt).

Anschlieend sind alle Klnge des Synthesizers einfach ber ihre Namen auswhlbar.

Mit Use standard patch names werden wieder die gewohnten Standard-Namen angezeigt.

Firmware V7.28 / Editor V3.1.x Bei Verwendung des AXON mit mehreren Computern beachten Sie bitte auch hier, dass die Listen sich nur auf dem jeweiligen Computer befinden und die angezeigten Namen nicht im AXON gespeichert werden.

Weitere Verbesserungen
Nach dem Verbinden des Editors mit dem AXON wird nicht mehr automatisch Preset 1 ausgewhlt, sondern das zuletzt verwendete Preset angezeigt. Beim Verbinden des Editors mit dem AXON und beim Beenden der Verbindung werden alle Einstellungen automatisch abgespeichert unter LatestConnect.syx bzw. LatestDisconnect.syx. Dies vereinfacht das Wiederherstellen eines vorherigen Zustandes, falls man mal etwas ungewollt gendert hat. In der Windows Version des Editors funktionieren nun alle Auswahlboxen auch dann korrekt, wenn Ihr Bildschirm auf einen anderen Wert als 96dpi eingestellt ist.

We are happy to provide several new features with this update package, that many customers were looking for. This document is an appendix to the manual.

Edit names for Guitar 1-8

The names Guitar 1 to Guitar 8 used for the 8 instrument settings on the Global page of the editor can now be changed individually. Click on the Tab-selector with the right mouse button. There will be a menu with only one entry Rename. Select this and type in any name you like to describe the instrument. (e.g. Stratocaster with PU100 or Godin Freeway SA).

Please note, that these names are only stored on your computer and not in the AXON. So if you use your AXON with a different computer, you will not see these names there. The Instrument setting selected in Global Guitar No. is now highlighted in the Tab-selector, even if you are temporarily using another instrument setting.

Graphical display of Trigger Level and Note Off Limit

To make clear the meaning of Trigger Level and Note Off Limit, we have added a little graphical display of these parameters. You can see the volume envelope of the guitar signal and beginning and end of the corresponding MIDI note.

As you can see easily, a higher Trigger Level means that the guitar needs to be played louder. A higher value for Note Off Limit has the effect that the MIDI note becomes shorter.

Pedal calibration in editor (AX 100 MKII only)

The calibration of the expression pedals EXP-1 and EXP-2 connected to the AX 100 MKII can now also be done from the editor. Until now, this was only possible from the menu of the device. Click on EXP-1 or EXP-2 in the Pedal calibration section and follow the instructions on the screen.

Connect-Mode selector in AX 100 MKII Mac Editor

As there have been problems with some MIDI interfaces on the Mac, there are now 2 possibilities, how the editor communicates with the AX 100 MKII. Beside the Connect button, you find a selector for Mode A and Mode B. If mode A does not work with your MIDI interface, please choose mode B. The difference is that in mode A each preset is transmitted separately and in mode B all presets are transmitted in one big block. Note: This function is not available for the AX 50 USB and the PC editor versions, as it is not necessary there.

Holdmode Sustain
In holdmode Sustain, all MIDI notes are held as long as the pedal is pressed. This is the behavior that is known from a pianos sustain pedal. You could already use a very similar function with the AXON (Holdmode Control with Holdcontrol Damper Pedal On/Off or sending CC#64 to the MIDI-In). But this does not always work as expected with notation software, as the controller is just ignored. Using this method, you can also hear that the tone is held, but the note written into your software is only as long as the guitar still sounds. The holdmode Sustain makes it possible now, to play notes of any length into your sequencer or notation software.

Holdmode Common
This mode is already known to users of the AX 100 MKII. No further MIDI data is sent while the hold pedal is being pressed. A chord played previously will be played by the MIDI instrument until the hold pedal is released. This also realizes a bypass function of sorts - your AXON will not send any additional MIDI data as long as the hold switch is being pressed while in this mode.

Using a MIDI pedal with the AX 50 USB

To use the hodmode functions with the AX 50 USB, you need to connect a MIDI pedal to the MIDI-In of the AXON. When pressing the pedal, MIDI controller CC#85 with a value >63 (e.g. 127) has to be sent to the AX 50 USB on any channel. When releasing the pedal, MIDI controller CC#85 with a value 63 (e.g. 0) has to be sent to the AX 50 USB on any channel. For the exact procedure to setup your MIDI pedal, please refer to your pedals manual.

Simplified preset selection (PC version only)

The first visible change on the preset page (PC version only) concerns selecting and storing presets. To select a preset, just select it from the list or use the < > buttons. The additional

Firmware V7.28 / Editor V3.1.x Get Preset button has been removed. To store a preset, you have to press the Store Preset button and select the preset number after that.

Copy settings to single or all presets

Most elements on the preset page now have a context menu that you can open with the right mouse button. From these menus, you can copy single settings to different presets or to all presets:

Copy to Preset...: The value is copied to a preset to be selected. Copy to all Presets: The value is copied to all presets.

For the settings in the Split/Layer area, the menus look a little different:

Copy to all Splits/Layers: The value is copied to all splits and layers. The preset still needs to be stored manually. Copy to all Splits/Layers in Preset...: The value is copied to all splits and layers in a preset to be selected. Copy to all Splits/Layers in all Presets: The value is copied to all splits and layers in all presets.

Sound selection by names (Cubase patchscripts)

In previous versions, the editor included only the soundnames of the General MIDI (GM) standard and the names of the built-in WAVE XTABLE soundboard of the AX100 MKII. To get the correct sound out of another synthesizer, you normally had to check its manual to find out the corresponding program change and bank select MSB/LSB numbers. This work can now be done by the editor. All you need is the sound list as a file in Cubase patchscript format. You can find those files for several devices in the subfolder Patchnames/ in the editors installation path. If you do not find your device there, just search the internet for patchscript and the device name. Additionally there is a tool from Steinberg called Patchname Script Maker. This tool allows you to create and edit those lists easily. You can find it at: ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/

Firmware V7.28 / Editor V3.1.x From the context menu of the instrument selector choose Load patch list and open the desired file (*.txt).

After that you can choose all the sounds of your synthesizer by their names.

Choose Use standard patch names to use the standard names again. If you are using your AXON with different computers, please note that the lists are only stored on the computers and the names displayed are not saved in the AXON.

Further improvements
After connecting the editor to the AXON, the preset currently in use will be displayed instead of selecting preset 1 automatically. When connecting or disconnecting the editor to the AXON, all settings are saved automatically as LatestConnect.syx or LatestDisconnect.syx. This makes it easier to go back to a previous version if you have changed something by mistake. In the Windows version of the Editors, all select boxes work correctly now, even if your display settings are different than the standard 96dpi.
