a) Position von Verb und Subjekt in Sätzen und Fragen
In English:
Do you come to the course?
Do you play an instrument?
In English:
What do you do today?
Why is your boyfriend not coming?
Haupt- Heute male ich ein Bild für meinen Vater. Verb: 2. Position
satz Ich male heute ein Bild für meinen Vater. Subjekt: 1. oder 3. Position
In English:
Today, I paint a picture for my father.
I paint a picture for my father today.
Neben- Ich hoffe, dass du am Samstag kommst. Verb: am Ende
satz Er hat keine Zeit, weil er nach Italien reist. Subjekt: 2. Position
In English:
I hope that you will come on Saturday.
He has no time because he´s travelling to Italy.
d) Perfekt
The Perfekt also uses the “Satzklammer”
structure. The auxiliary verb (“haben” or “sein”)
Ich habe gearbeitet. is in the second position (or in the first, if it is
Er hat Tee getrunken. an imperative or a yes-no question). The
Partizip II (=past participle) is at the end.
Der Zug ist um 18.32 Uhr angekommen.
(Note: In subordinated clauses, both parts are
at the end.)
e) Zusammenfassung (conclusion)
If a German word has a second part (an infinitive, a prefix, the past participle), this structure applies
for main clauses, yes-no-questions and wh-questions:
In subordinate clauses, you can find the whole verb at the end.
