Grammar
Konjunktiv 2
Why? The best way to ask polite questions in the business world is to use
the Konjunktiv 2.
First - the simple answer, würde + infinitve … done! Because this is how
we use the Konjunktiv 2 most of the time in spoken German.
Example:
Würden Sie so freundlich sein und mich mit dem Geschäftsführer
verbinden? Would you be so kind and connect me with the CEO?
Now the long answer – We take the infinitive verb and form the
Präteritum, then we add the Konjunktiv endings and turn the vowel into
an Umlaut, if possible.
For the past we use the Konjunktiv form of sein and haben + past
participle. Wenn ich das gewusst hätte, wäre ich in den Park gekommen. If
I would have known that, then I would have come to the park.
Let’s do some examples, try to translate the following sentences into
German:
If I would not have come, then I would not have seen this.
German English
die Steuer (die Steuern) the tax (the taxes)

Geschäftsführer: Also, wir beginnen nun die Sitzung. Das braucht nicht
so formell zu sein, aber ich muß nicht besonders betonen, wie wichtig
die Sache ist. Wir haben alle unsere Kopie der Bilanz erhalten.

lch habe mir unsere Auftragslage angesehen, und ich schlage vor, daß
wir für nicht mehr als 10% Wachstum im kommenden Jahr
veranschlagen.

Grammar
Relative clauses
Usually we use der, die, das as relative pronouns. Don‘t forget the comma
to separate the sentence. You have to use the relative pronouns in the
different cases. I know I know, don’t give up!
Nominative: Johan, der eine Brille trägt, ist intelligent.
(Johan trägt eine Brille. – Wer?)
Anstatt der, die etc. können wir auch welcher, welche etc. verwenden!
Relative Pronouns
Nominative Accusative Dative Genitive
The numerus and genus depends on the noun that you want to replace. The
casus depends on the dependable clause.
Let’s do some examples, try to translate the following sentences into German:

tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have to postpone the appointment.
Ms. Müller: On Wednesday Mr. Jakobs calendar is already full. but Thursday
at 3 p.m. fits well. Should I put that in the calendar?
Manager: Well, we're starting the meeting now. This does not need to be so
formal, but I don't need to stress the importance of this matter. We all
received our copies of the balance sheet.
Manager: Yes, but we still have to keep our feet on the ground.
I've looked at our order book and I suggest that
we estimate for no more than 10% growth in the coming year.
Head of the finance department: Ms. Tauber needs a new camera, and in this
case we should buy a high quality camera right away, especially if we focus
on increased marketing in the future.
Manager: I trust that you will follow our monthly cash flow very closely. I'll
mainly focus on finding new business opportunities.
