Module examinations and grades
Remark: At the Department of Civil Engineering we employ two different
systems of grading. Most modules are completed with an (oral or written)
exam or a graded essay, paper, or thesis and these will be graded on a scale
from excellent (1.0) to fail (5).
However, this module will be completed first by an assignment graded only
passed or failed, and second by a written examination graded on a scale from
1.0 to 5.
1. non-graded assignment (work load: 60 hours)
graded only passed ( 80%) or failed (Grade: 5)

handed-out in several parts

registration for the assignment is mandatory
a withdrawal from the assignment is not possible
there are mandatory guidelines for assignments

2. written examination (duration: 90 minutes)

1.0 / 1.3

1.7 / 2.0 / 2.3

3.7 / 4

< 40
3. grade for the module
Case #1: If the assignment is passed the grade of the written examination
is the grade for the module. The assignment has not further influence on
the final grade for the module.

Case #2: The failing grade for the assignment is 5 and the grade of the module is
calculated from the truncated weighted arithmetic average (see table below).
