a. Adjektivdeklination: indefiniter Artikel

- If the adjective comes before the noun , the adjective is part of a noun group and must be declined.
The adjective then has an attributive function .

b. Komparation
- The adjective knows three forms of comparison: the basic form (positive) , the comparative (1st
comparison) and the superlative (2nd comparison) .
- Accordingly, the superlative is the highest form of the part of speech. The comparative makes it
possible to compare two things with each other (Max ist klüger als Moritz) , whereby the best form
compares one thing with several things or with the whole (teacher Lämpel is the smartest ) .
- Adjectives and adverbs can be intensified. In the comparative, the regularly sharpened adjectives
get the ending “-er”,
- in the superlative the adjective comes before the adjective “am” and it gets the ending “-sten”
- In general, adjectives and adverbs are written in lower case.
- concerned irregular adjectives; Adjectives that are monosyllabic or end in d/t, s/ß/x/z and the e with
an unstressed adjective ending:
- fett – fetter – am fettesten
- nett – netter – am nettesten
- aktuell – aktueller – am aktuellsten

- Einige Eigenschaftswörter bilden Superlativ und Komparativ mit einem Umlaut:
- kalt – kälter – am kältesten
- klug – klüger – am klügsten

- There are also adjectives that are irregular. These forms simply have to be learned here, since the
basic form of the adjective changes:
- gern lieber am liebsten
- gut besser am besten
- hoch höher am höchsten
- nah näher am nächsten
- viel sehr am meisten
- groß größer am größten

- Europäerinnen sind sehr hübsch.
- Afrikanerinnen sind noch hübscher.
- Südamerikanerinnen sind am hübschesten.

c. Vergleichpartikel: als, wie

- The words als and wie are often referred to as comparative particles, but basically both words are
also conjunctions, because comparisons can also be followed by a whole sentence.

- When comparing with the comparative (schneller, höher, schöner usw..) we use "als".

- When comparing with the non-hyphenated adjective, i.e. the positive (schnell, hoch, schön usw.),
iwe use "wie".

- Sie läuft schneller als ich.
- Sie läuft schneller, als ich in ihrem Alter gelaufen bin.

- Heute ist es kälter als gestern.
- Heute ist es kälter, als es gestern war.

- Sie ist so groß wie ich.
- Er ist nicht so groß wie sie.
- Das Buch ist so teuer wie das andere.
- Wein trinke ich nicht so gern wie Bier.
- Das Auto ist doppelt so teuer wie das andere.
- Er ist so stark wie ein Bär.

- Er ist größer als ich.
- Das Buch ist teurer als das andere.
- Sie ist älter als ihre Schwester.
- Er spielt lieber Fußball als Basketball.
