Fragment for String Quartet was composedon August 30, 1994 in Southbury,Connecticutin
for
r""rory of my good friend and colleague,David Hundey.This short work uses harmonics
the stringsthroughout,which, I hope,give a poignantcharacterto my musical lt

premiere-bythekronos Quartet in New York in a concert dedicated to the memot} of David
on O c t ober 13 , 1 9 9 4 .

Frogment No. 2 for string quartet is a tribute to the Arditti String Quartet that has so wonderfully
championedmy music.lt was first performedwhen that quartet was awardedthe Von Siemens
