KUBO NG KARUNUNGAN
I. INTRODUCTION
As educators, we understand that the art of teaching extends beyond
imparting knowledge by just explaining what’s the lesson is all about. It
involves sparking curiosity, fostering critical thinking and nurturing a lifelong
love for learning in our learners.
That is why, the owner of this instructional material come up to the idea
of creating this tool that can be used to ignite curiosity, ignite creativity and
empower learners of all ages.
II. EXPLANATION:
The House of Knowledge or “Kubo ng Karunungan” is an engaging and
interactive manipulative tool which is designed with an emphasis on aesthetic
appeal, aiming to capture the interest and curiosity of learners. However,
acknowledging the diverse needs and differences among learners,
enhancements were made. These improvements have broadened its
applicability, making it a versatile tool suitable for all learning areas.
To discuss it’s functions and use,
1. The fruits and vegetables hanging on the nipa hut are creatively
utilized to teach ordinal numbers. Learners are prompted to
identify the position of each fruit or vegetable from left to right.
Under the nipa hut where sticks or “panggatong” with words written
on them such as “una, pangalawa, pangatlo” and so on. This
interactive activity engages learners in hands-on approach, allowing
them to physically point to the fruits or vegetables. By doing so,
learners actively participate in the lesson, reinforcing their
understanding of ordinal numbers. The combination of visually
appealing fruits and vegetables, the traditional nipa hut setting and
the use of “panggatong” with written words creates a captivating
learning experience. It is not only teaches ordinal numbers but also
fosters cultural appreciation and curiosity among learners.
2. At the back of fruits and vegetables, engaging word problems are
written for learners to solve. These word problems provide an
opportunity for learners to apply their knowledge of addition and
subtraction.
III. MATERIALS:
The finished instructional material was made up of a very cheap
material such as cogon grass and bamboo which are available in the
community. The fruits and vegetables used are made of felt cloth which is
very durable and washable. The words or the printed tile on the roof of nipa
hut is laminated. The materials such as typewriting, laminating film, adhesive
tape and glue sticks were present in the school, and are part of the materials
provided from the school operations fund.
V. IMPACT
The instructional material underwent validation in the school on March 5 2024
ensuring its effectiveness and alignment with the curriculum. With this material,
there is clear evidence that academic performance will improve and learning
outcomes will be achieved.
Overall, this instructional material serves as a powerful tool in enhancing the
learning experience for grade 1 learners, fostering active participation and facilitating
academic growth.
