IRONBRIDGE DEVILS TOWER

GORGE (WYOMING)

This is a deep gorge on the River Severn. The

name of the gorge is derived from the iron bridge
above it, which is a symbol of the industrial
revolution in this area. In 1779, the iron bridge
was one of a kind (an arch bridge built with cast
iron). The place has been nicknamed by the Brits
‘the birthplace of the industrial revolution’.

Is Plastic the Bad

Apple or not?
Look around and you’ll see that plastic is everywhere, from the food
packaging we buy to the computers we work with and the cars we
drive. Unfortunately, much of the plastic we go through daily is used
only once and then thrown away. In the end, most of it ends up in our
rivers, seas and oceans, posing a serious threat to the survival of not
only marine life but our own lives as well.

It is a good idea, but sadly
impossible. Firstly, only 1%
of marine litter floats, while
the vast majority sinks to
the bottom of the sea. Even
if we attempted to clean up
that 1%, who would pay for
this in international waters?
Besides, most of the plastic
pieces are tiny. Secondly,
even if miraculously we
managed to scoop all of these pieces up, most of them being smaller than a grain
of rice, what would we do with them? So the only solution is to drastically cut
down the amount of plastic we use and be careful how we dispose of it.

The Hysteria Around
Hunting
Is hunting a reasonable pastime, or is it an obsolete activity that needs
to be done away with? Arm yourself as English Matters presents how
heated the debate over hunting can get.

H
unting has been around as
long as humans have. The
question is: is it incompatible
with modern life? Hunting is
a common hobby for many, and com-
mercial hunting is a thriving business.
But this doesn’t make it right. Animal
rights activists, ecologists and others
have denounced hunting as downright
unethical. Hunting inspires plenty of
emotions, and the debate surrounding it
is doubtlessly alive and kicking.

Gung-Ho for Hunting

“In my community, hunting does a lot

Waste Sorting Story
Most of us realise that recycling has become a necessity in our modern
world. In the United States alone, 254 million tons of trash is produced
annually. Out of that exorbitant amount, only around 34 per cent is
recycled. Even though most people are aware of the need to recycle
and take an active part in it, they may be unaware of the fact that it’s
not done properly.
