Corinphila Auctions
Tradition and Experience in Classic Philately since 1925
From the very first offers of over 80 years ago, the philatelic
treasures have been exquisite. The rarities in the first auction
from Finland, Cantonal stamps from Switzerland, Italian States
and the overprinted issues from both the British and the French
Occupation of Togo, as well as those from German New Guinea,
would also attract the highest level of interest today. Hefty bidding
and high offers made even the very first auction a huge success
for our consigners. Often the catalogue prices were well exceeded.
At the end, the total sum for 3111 lots came to 324‘207 Swiss
Francs, “excluding buyer‘s commission” as stated in the resulting
list. When one considers the levels of purchasing power at that
time, it was an unbelievably high figure and a brilliant beginning
for what has become the best address in the philatelic world –
Corinphila, Zurich.

Corinphila Auktionen
Eine lange Tradition glanzvoller Versteigerungen – Corinphila Auktionen im Überblick
D ie 150.
Kenntnis. Denken Sie etwa an Dr. Anton und Elisabeth Jerger, Edgar Kuphal, Eugenio Gebauer,
Herry W. Schaefer, Ludwig Kofler, Henry W. Moser, M.A. Bojanowicz, Peter Brodtbeck, Robert M.
Gibbs, Roberto Hoffmann, Gabriel Sanchez, Jacobo Neuburger, Reinhold Koester, Joaquim Galvez,
Auktionen unseres Schweizer Traditionshauses.

Corinphila Auctions
A Long Tradition of Prestigious Auctions – a Summary of Corinphila Auctions
T he 150th Corinphila stamp auction in December 2007 was from many standpoints a memorable
and important occasion. Reason enough to have a look back at some of the history-making
Corinphila auctions since 1925.
Many of the most important stamp collections from several generations have found their way to a
Corinphila auction. Collections which were assembled by the most famous collectors of their time,
including Greece (Philip la Renotiere de Ferrari, 1929), Romania (Baron von Rothschild, 1947),
Mexico (King Farouk of Egypt, 1955) and more recently, Russia-Zemstvo (Fabergé, 1999).
Apart from the collections of such collectors as these, whose names are also important outside the
realm of philately, many other world-class collections have been auctioned by Corinphila. In earlier
years it was often the case, at the express wish of the vendor, that the provenance of a collection
not be made known. More recently it has been possible, with the approval of the vendor, to offer
“named” collections or to present them under a pseudonym.
Many of the collections sold by Corinphila in the past are held in especially high esteem nowadays,
particulary due to their prestigious provenance. Correctly, of course, as the sourcing to a famous col-
lector is not only a guarantee of the highest quality, but also unites profound research and authority.
Just think of such names as Dr. Anton und Elisabeth Jerger, Edgar Kuphal, Eugenio Gebauer, Herry
W. Schaefer, Ludwig Kofler, Henry W. Moser, M.A. Bojanowicz, Peter Brodtbeck, Robert M. Gibbs,
Roberto Hoffmann, Gabriel Sanchez, Jacobo Neuburger, Reinhold Koester, Joaquim Galvez, Don
Miguel Pedro Gonzales, Don Battista Alfredo Segantini oder Charles Jewell… Every one of these
names will remain important to the collectors of their respective areas.
The following detailed list offers you a summary of the special and named collections which have
been sold by Corinphila since 1925. Next to the collecting area, be it country or theme, is listed the
respective collector, or his or her pseudonym, as presented in the auction catalogue. Also, information
about the awards given to these collections has been detailed.
We hope you will enjoy this summary of over 80 years of successful stamp sales conducted by our
renowned Swiss auction house.
