In dem alten Bistritze1· Archive haben s ich bei Gelegenheit
der Neuord11ung desse lben Aufzeich nunge11 gefunde11, die uns über
den Sta11d der Bevölkert1ng des alte11 Sachsen bode11s hö ch~t be-
deutsam e At1fsch1i.1sse gebe11. In drei bloss der ä.usser en Form nach
e1·scbiP.de11 e n Hefteh en finden 'vir rl ie ge11aue Volkszählung aus

clen siebe11 Stlihle11 vom E11de des XV. und Anfang des XVI. Jahr-
ht111 derts. Daran reiht sich cler Zeitfolge 11ach ein Büchlein ent-
h altend clie Volkszäh lt1rrg im Burze11lande aus dem Jahre 15 10.
Den Schl11ss bilden Notizen. zu A11fa11g des XV I. Ja11rbu11clerts von
tler Ha11J tle dan1alig~r1 Bistritzer Stadtscbreibe1·s (auf eine1n Pa}!ier-
bogen) eJ1t\\1 01·fe11 welche t1ns den Bevölkeru11gsstand des Bistritzer
und Kronstäclter Distrikts des f\1 ed iasch er und Schelker Stuhls,
sowie der 7 und 2 Stühle vo1·füb r en. All e diese Aufzeichnungen,
sind auf dauerhaftes P apier mit schi.varzer Tinte, fast ohne Aus-
besserung und ü be1·all gL1t leserlich gesch1·iebe11. Sie trugen bish er
k ei11e Archivnumm er und sind gegen\\ ärtig der n eugebildeten Ur-

ku11dengruppe cl es Archivs einverleibt worden .

Wie schon bemerkt, t eilen sich dieselben in drei Gruppen :

I. Die Volkszählung in den sieben Stühlen.

Die b ereits er\vähnten d1·ei Heftehen, der Übersichtlichkeit
wegen mit A, B ut1d C bezeichnet, stel1en in enger Verwandtschaft
zu einander ; denn die Reihenfolge der Stühle eine1·seits, ande1·er-
seits die Aufeinande1·folge d er einzelnen Stuhlsgen1einden ist in
allen drei Vorlagen genau dieselbe. Sechs geringfiigige Abweichungen
ausgenommen ist auch die Anordnung der einzelnen Zäblungsobjekte
bei den Gem einden (bospites, pauperes, pastores etc.) e ine gleich-
mässige. Den grösste11 Ansp1·ucb auf 01·iginalität macht die Vorlage
A, welche aus drei der Län ge nach gebroch en en und zusamme11-
genähten Halbbogen besteht (wobei 12 Schmalfolio-Seiten beschrieben
sind) und am Kopfe ii1 arabischen Ziffern di e Jahreszahl 1488 trägt.

Wasse1'zeichen (Wage) und Papier sind genau dieselben wie beispiels-
weise die der· Bistritzer· Urkund e des Königs Mathias vom 2 1. F ebrt1ar
1486. Die Vorlage B besteht ebenfalls a us drei der· Länge nach
gebrochenen und zusammen genähten Halbbogen , docl1 sind nur
11 S eiten b eschri eben. Das W asserzeich en ist eine, a n der Spitze
der Scheere mit sech sstr·aligem Sterne verseh en e Wage in ein em
l{1·eise. Das Heft ist bis auf ein en am untere11 Rand e dt1rch a lle
Blätter durchgehend en W asserfleck i·ei11 und gut e1·halten . Ei11e
Jahreszahl ist nicht a11gegeben ; doch ist allen äusseren und inn eren
Kennzeichen nach das Stück auf das Er1de des XV.. J ahrhund erts
anzusetzen . Die dritte Vorlage (C) ist die b estgeschrie bel'1e ; s ie mag -
wohl eine späte1·e Reinschrift vo11 A sein, mi t dem sie weit meb1·
übereinstimmt, als B. Das H eft besteht aus vier· in gleicher Weise
wie bei A und B zusammengelegten Halbbogen ohn e W as erzeich en.
Das erste Blatt, das b ei A und B beschrieben ist , ist hier als
Titelblatt freigelassen und t1·ägt die Aufschri ft Anno salutis MilLe-
_simo Quj.11gentesimo octavo und unten von späterer' Ha nU die
Jahreszahl 1805 du1·chgestricben und korrigiert in 1.§..08.
Es folgt nun der 'f ext der V01·1age A. Grösser·e Abweichungen
derselben von B und C. welche sich besonders auf die Schreibweise
der Ortsnamen beziehen, werden in Fuss noten be1~vorgeboben :

Zum Aberglauben
von B ode ndorf.
Um die klein en Kinder vor dem Alp (alf) zu schützen \vird
unter den P olste1· oder in die Wi ege ein e Sich el gelegt. Denselben
Dienst thut ein a uf die Wiege gelegter Besen . Andere steck en ein en
Spiess ins "ruch lieh " , oder streu en Rosendörne r auf den Herd ; dann
ist auch den Hex en der Eingang in das Haus vet·wehrt.
Das „Umgehen ", d . h. Spuken der Gei8te r, wird „him kt111 "
genannt . Dies deshalb 1 we il man annimmt. dass alle „umgehend en "
Geister kei11 e Ruhe im Grab h ätte11, weil s ie irgend etwas Kosl -
