Das Gebäude liegt nahe der Pädagogischen Universi-
tät Jyväskylä und in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft
des Zentralfinnischen Museums (Band II). Diese bei-
den Museen sollen als kulturelles Zentrum auch ei-
nen erzieherischen Beitrag leisten.
Das Alvar-Aalto-Museum ist eine Stiftung verschie-
dener Korporationen und der Stadtbehörde. Es be-
herbergt die Sihtola-Sammlung und soll jederzeit für
eine Aalta-Ausstellung zu Verfügung stehen. Anläß-
lich der jährlich stattfindenden Kulturwochen in
Jyväskylä soll es auch wechselnden Ausstellungen
Platz bieten.
Das Grundstück befindet sich an einem mit großen
Bäumen bepflanzten steilen Hang, welcher von ei-
nem wasserreichen Bach durchzogen wird. Das Tal
öffnet sich in südöstlicher Richtung zum Jyvässee.
Der Bach wurde in Verbindung mit einem Gartenre-
staurant zu einem Wasserfallbecken erweitert und
soll auf diese Weise die Sichtverbindung zum Zen-
traltinnischen Museum herstellen.
Museen dieser Art bilden keinen repräsentativen
Schwerpunkt als kulturelle Selbstdarstellung der
Stadt, sondern solche Museen sollen in bescheide-
ner Atmosphäre dem Zweck dienen, alltägliche kul-
turelle Bedürfnisse zur Darstellung und zur Ausein-
andersetzung zu bringen, ohne daß große finanzielle
Mittel dafür notwendig werden.

nach den Anforderungen der jeweiligen Ausstellung. reguliert und
verändert werden.

L'edifice est situe a proximite de l'universite pedago-
gique de Jyväskylä et dans le voisinage immediat du
musee de Ia Finlande centrale (vol. II). Ces deux mu-
sees sont destines a rehausser les valeurs pedago-
giques de Ia cite.
Le musee Alvar Aalto, du a une fondation de plu-
sieurs corporations et des autorites municipales,
abrite Ia collection Sihtola et doit Ehre constamment
a Ia disposition d'expositions Aalto. Durant les se-
maines culturelles qui ont lieu chaque annee a Jyväs-
kylä, ce musee accueillera des expositians diverses.
Situe sur une pente raide, le terrain arborise est tra-
verse par un ruisseau. La vallee s' ouvre vers le sud-
est sur le lac de Jyväs. Le ruisseau a ete amenage en
cascade; et le bassin qui agremente le jardin du res-
taurant forme aussi un enrichissement pour le musee
de Ia Finlande centrale.
Un musee de ce genre doit etre non pas Ia glorifica-
tion des vertus de Ia cite, mais le foyer de Ia vie spiri-
tuelle de Ia communaute, sans faire appel a des
moyens financiers exageres.
Coupe: La lurniere zenithale peut etre reglee selon les besoins des
expositions.
Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä

The building is situated near the Jyväskylä Institute
of Education and in the immediate vicinity of the
Central Finnish Museum (Volume II). These two mu-
seums are to constitute a cultural centre and thus to
serve an educational function.
The Alvar Aalto Museum is a foundation of various
corporate bodies and of the municipal authorities. lt
accommodates the Sihtola Collection and is to be
available at any time for an Aalto Exhibition. On the
occasion of the annual Festival of the Arts in Jyväs-
kylä it is also intended to be available for alternating
exhibitions.
The site is located on a steep slope planted with
large trees, the area being crossed by a torrential
brook. The valley opens to the southeast towards
the Jyväs Lake.
The brook, in connection with an outdoor restau-
rant, has been widened to form a pool with falls; it is
intended in this way to constitute a visual link with
the Central Finnish Museum.
Museums of this kind are not major cultural institu-
tions enhancing the prestige of a city, but such mu-
seums in their modest way are designed to serve the
purpose of providing a forum for everyday cultural
needs, without calling for large-scale financing.
Cross-section: By means of the skylight strips, the natural light from
outside can be regulated and altered in keeping with the nature of
the given exhibitions.

Sie unterteilt die große Höhe in verschiedene Zonen und vermittelt dem Raum durch die freie Form und
die Schrägstellung eine räumlich wirkende Komponente.

Lin k s: Eingangsgeschoß. ln diese m Geschoß befinden sich direkt an
die Eingangshalle anschließend zwe i Büros für die Verwaltung, ein
kleiner Vortragssaal und eine Cafeteria mit der Verbindung zum Gar-
ten . Von den Lagerräumen mit einer W erkstatt für Restaurierungen
und einer Dunkelkammer für Fotoarbeiten führt eine Rampe ins obe -
re Ausstellungsg eschoß und zur An Iiefe rung .
Rech ts: Ausstellungsgeschoß. Neben der großen Ausstellungshalle
sind eine kleine Hauswartwohnung und ein vermietbares Atelier un-
tergebracht . Die n ic ht rechtwinklige Grund riß form mit dem schräg-
gestellten Konstruktionssy st em erl aubt es, verschiedene Au ss t el-
lungen g leic hzeitig zu präsentieren , ohne daß diese sich g egense itig
st ö ren . Es können unabhängige A usstellungszonen gesc haffen wer-
den. Nur zwei Innenwände sind fi xiert , die Restflächen lassen sich
mit flexiblen Wänden frei unterteile n. Fenster in den Wänden ha t es
n ur gegen den Garten und gegen das Zentralfinnische Museum.
