I. MOVIE SUMMARY
A. Every Child is Special

Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi, an 8-year-old boy who is not doing well in school. He
consistently failed in all of his exams and keeps this a secret from his family. He seems not to
mind whenever he is asked with his test results. He is usually caught by his teacher day
dreaming, and when one time he was asked to read, he wasn’t able to do so, and said that the
letters were “dancing”. This made his classmates laugh at him and his teacher sent out him out of
the class as punishment. Despite Ishaan’s poor academic performance, he is a gifted child with
artistic talents. His creative works can be seen in their home. He is very talented in painting and
drawing.

One day, Ishan had cut classes and went roaming around town all alone. He wandered the
streets all by himself. Because of skipping his classes, Ishaan convinced his older brother Yohan
to write him an excuse letter, forging his mother’s signature, so he could give it to his teacher.
This was to cover him up of being not able to attend school and not working on his assignment.

His father found out about it and got really mad. When his parent’s visited Ishaan’s school,
they’ve found out his poor performance and his teacher even compared him to his older brother.
The school head even suggested sending Ishaan to a special school, a school for the retard
because of his behavior in school. But his father could not accept that he’s youngest son is a
retard and his mother felt useless, after sacrificing his job and career for her sons, it seems
nothing has happened with her effort. Ishaan’s father decided to enroll him to an all-boys school
to be disciplined, against Ishan’s will. Being separated from his family and being in a new school
didn’t help Ishaan at all. It only made him feel lonelier and sadder. He only felt rejection.

Things are no different in his new school. His academic performance never improved. His
new teachers still perceived him as idiot, dumb, lazy or king of the morons. Ishaan even lost his
interest on things that he loved most, drawing and painting. He didn’t even mind the art materials
given to him by his older brother. He just hid it in the drawer.

Until Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a substitute teacher burst into the scene. He infers the students
with joy and optimism. He breaks all the rules of ‘how things are done’ by asking them to think,
dream, and imagine. All of the children responded, all except for Ishaan. He never even painted a
single thing when Nikumbh asked them to do so.
