1. GENERAL
1.1 INTRODUCTION

CTE means: Central Timer Unit

The 3 indicates that this is variant 3.
The CTE-3 model has the following functions:
- operates the direction indicator lamps
- operates the windscreen

-
wash-wipe/intermittent wipe system
operates the headlight cleaner system 2
- operates the glow system
- operates the single-H-safety and gearbox
gate safety
- amplifies the vehicle speed signal
- delays the switching off of the cab lighting
- operates the engine brake valve
- maintains the voltage on the connection
point for the coolant level sensor for 60
seconds after the contact has been
switched on
- switches off the vehicle speed control.
The control options of the unit are indicated
above.
Depending on the vehicle model however it can
be the case that various systems are not
provided.

After the contact has been switched 24 volts will
remain on connection point 36 for 60 seconds.
After this time the voltage on connection point
36 will cease.
The control switch (F051) for the coolant level is
connected to this output.
Coolant level
The control switch (F051) for the coolant level is
a sensor with a Reed contact. The contacts will
close under influence of a magnetic field (driver
in coolant reservoir).
If the coolant level is not correct, a lamp will
illuminate on the CWS panel for 60 seconds.

Speed I
If windscreen wiper switch (C507) is set to
position I, voltage will be present on connection
point 21.
The relay (G009) is then activated because
connection point 23 is earthed.
Speed II
If windscreen wiper switch (C507) is set to
position II, voltage will be present on connection
point 46.
Relay (G009) and relay (G008) are then
activated because connection points 23 and 52
are earthed.

2-2 9810
CTE-3
65/75/85CF series Control functions

Intermittent wipe
Voltage is applied to connection point 49 via
windscreen wiper switch (C507).
The relay (G009) is then activated because
connection point 23 is earthed.
If the power supply is connected to connection
point 40 via the cut-off switch, the earth is
broken to connection point 23, through which
the relay (G009) is no longer activated.
If connection point 40 is earthed via the cut-off
switch, connection point 23 will be earthed again
after a few seconds, through which the relay 2
(G009) is re-activated. This means that the
cycle begins once more.
Wipe/wash
If voltage is present on connection point 20, via
windscreen wiper switch (C507), for a minimum
of one second and is then disengaged
(windscreen wiper switch C507 no longer
active), connection point 23 will be earthed for a
certain time.
As a result, relay (G009) is activated.
Note:
If voltage is present on the CTE unit for speed
I/speed II or in the intermittent position and the
windscreen wiper motor (B000) does not turn
(due to faulty fuse for example), then the
activation of the relay will disengage after
approx. 1 second.
The windscreen wiper switch (C507) must first
be switched again to the “0” position before the
windscreen wiper motor (B000) can be
controlled once more via the relay.

General
The system that is fitted here is of the 3 + 3
type. That means:
- 3 lamps on the tractive unit, and
- 3 lamps on the trailer.
All lamps must be 24 volt - 21 watt for the
correct functioning of the system.
The two warning lamps on the instrument panel,
one for the tractive unit and one for trailer, will
flash in unison when functioning correctly. These
lamps will not illuminate when there is a fault if
the installation is switched on.
A fault can be caused by:
- overload
- underload

2-4 9810
CTE-3
65/75/85CF series Control functions

Overload
- more than 4 lamps per side are connected
to the tractive unit;
- more than 3 lamps per side are connected
to the trailer;
- short circuit.
Consequence:
- warning lamp on the instrument panel does
not illuminate;
- direction indicator lamps do not illuminate
on the side concerned. 2
Note:
The safety may already come on with 4 lamps,
but will certainly switch on if 5 lamps are
connected to one side. The unit will correct
itself 3 seconds after the overload has been
relieved.
Underload
- less than 3 lamps illuminate per side on the
tractive unit;
- no lamps illuminate on either side of the
tractive unit.
Consequence:
- warning lamp on the instrument panel does
not illuminate.

DIRECTION INDICATORS
Left
When the direction indicator switch (C506) is
operated to the left, then the supply voltage is
connected through to connection point 53 of the
CTE-3. The CTE-3 will consequently emit a
signal via connection point 4 and 2. Also, if there
is a pulse on connection points 4 and 2 of the
CTE-3, these lamps will briefly illuminate.
Right
When the direction indicator switch (C506) is
operated to the right, then the supply voltage is
connected through to connection point 24 of the
CTE-3. The CTE-3 will consequently emit a
signal via connection point 31 and 30. Also, if
there is a pulse on connection points 31 and 30
of the CTE-3, these lamps will briefly illuminate.

 9810 2-5
CTE-3
Control functions 65/75/85CF series

The CTE-3 will also emit a signal to the

instrument panel (D816), connection point 7 and
34. The warning lamps of the tractive vehicle
and trailer will illuminate and the tick relay will be
activated when the direction indicator system is
working correctly.
WARNING LAMPS
A supply voltage is present on the
warning/direction indicator lamp switch (C540)
via fuse (E108).
2 By then activating the warning/direction indicator
lamp switch (C540), the supply voltage will be
applied to connection point 37 of the CTE-3.
The CTE-3 will then deliver a pulse via
connection points 4 - 2 - 31 and 30, so that
these lamps will illuminate simultaneously.
The warning lights also work when the contact is
switched off.

Cab lighting switch off delay

If the co-driver’s side door is opened, a voltage
will be present on connection point 17 via door
switch (E514).
This means a voltage is applied to connection
point 27, causing the interior lighting to
illuminate, unless switch (C119) is in the correct
position.
When the co-driver’s side door is closed, a
current is no longer present on connection
point 17. From this moment connection point 27
is connected for approx. another 9 seconds to
the supply voltage.
If the vehicle is driven immediately after the door
has been closed then the delay will be directly
disactivated by the incoming speed signal on
connection point 18. The lighting will then go
out.
Note:
The speed signal (connection point 18) is a
square-wave voltage.

2 CTE

18

B501
E500499

Amplifying the vehicle speed signal

As the speed signal is used by various switches
and systems, the signal that is emitted from the
tachograph is too weak.
This signal must therefore be amplified, in order
to be able to power all systems.
The speed signal from the tachograph is
attached to connection point 18 and returns to
connection point 19 amplified.
Connected to connection point 19:
- Electronic unit for
Voith retarder 133-2 (D870)
- Electronic unit for ZF intarder (D587)
- Electronic units for ECAS-2
(D802 and D851)
- Electronic unit for PTO switch (D861)
Note:
- The incoming speed signal (connection
point 18) is a square-wave voltage.
- The outgoing speed signal (connection
point 19) is a square-wave voltage.

26 51
2
CTE

18

B501

Single-H-safety
A single-H-safety has been incorporated in the
CTE-3. This protects the gearbox against
changing down into a lower gear incorrectly.
If you want to change down from the high group
to the low group, and the vehicle speed is still
too high, then changing down will be blocked.
The vehicle speed signal is present on
connection point 18. If the vehicle speed is
lower than a certain value (this value depends
on the engine type and gearbox model),
connection point 51 will be earthed.
This results in the single-H-safety valve (B079)
being activated, meaning changing down to the
low group is possible.
If the vehicle speed becomes too high, the earth
connection to connection point 51 will be
broken, meaning it is no longer possible to shift
gear to a lower group.

 9810 2-9
CTE-3
Control functions 65/75/85CF series

Gearbox gate safety

A gearbox gate safety has been incorporated in
the CTE-3. The gate safety only operates in the
low group. It prevents the gearbox from being
shifted down from third or fourth gear (gate 3-4)
to first or second gear (gate 1-2) when the
vehicle speed is too high.
This shifting error occurs if the driver fails to
switch the group switch over to the high group
with the gear lever before shifting from fourth to
2 fifth gear.
The vehicle speed signal is present on
connection point 18. If the vehicle speed is
lower than a certain value (this value depends
on the engine type and gearbox model),
connection point 26 will be connected with the
supply voltage. This results in the gearbox gate
safety being activated, meaning shifting down to
the first or second gear is possible.
If the vehicle speed becomes too high, the
supply voltage of connection point 26 will be
broken, meaning it is no longer possible to shift
a gear down to the first or second gear.
Note:
- The vehicle speed signal on connection
point 18 is a square-wave voltage.
- The moment at which the shift-down safety
and the gearbox gate safety must be active,
is programmed into the unit with the aid of
DAVIE-2.0.

If the engine brake control switch (E564) is

operated, a voltage is applied to connection
point 14. As a result, connection point 55 is
connected to the supply voltage, causing engine
brake valve (B192) to be activated.
Connection point 55 is only connected to the
supply voltage if:
- the engine speed exceeds 700 rpm
(connection point 6)
- the rear wheels of an ABS-equipped vehicle
do not lock (connection point 41).
When the rear wheels lock connection point 41
is earthed via relay (G173) which is activated by
the ABS unit.

 9810 2-11
CTE-3
Control functions 65/75/85CF series

Note:
- The incoming engine speed signal
(connection point 6) is a square-wave
voltage.
- If an Allison automatic gearbox is fitted,
voltage will be present on connection
point 54 (not stated on illustration) of the
CTE-3 unit when the engine brake switch
(E564) is operated. This results in the
electronic unit (D866) of the Allison gearbox
2 ensuring that the gearbox shifts down
sooner so that the engine is kept up to
speed. This is in order that the engine
brake power is kept as high as possible.

If the vehicle contact is turned off, no voltage is

present on connection point 42. As a result,
connection point 55 will be connected to the
supply voltage for 3 minutes, causing the engine
brake valve (B192) to be activated.
If the vehicle contact is switched on again within
these three minutes, the engine brake valve
(B192) is once more deactivated.

If a serious fault is present in the E-gas system,

the E-gas unit will send a pulsating signal to
connection point 43 of the CTE unit.
This means that connection point 55 is
connected to the supply voltage in pulses, so
that the engine brake valve is controlled in
pulses.
An adjustment of the engine speed then takes
place of approx. 1000 rpm. The adjusted
engine speed is “checked” by the E-gas unit
because it also receives feedback from the
engine speed signal.
The E-gas unit also checks the wiring to
connection point 43 for interruptions and
short-circuits.
The engine speed is adjusted by the E-gas unit
in case of an interruption or short-circuit to
approx. 1500 rpm.

Voltage is present on connection point 25.

Via control switch (E522) of the clutch pedal this
voltage is also present on the E-gas unit
connection point (D591).
If the clutch pedal is operated, then the vehicle
speed control is switched off, because at that
moment the voltage on the E-gas unit
connection point drops.
If voltage is present on connection points 13, 14
or 38, the voltage drops on connection point 25
and the vehicle speed control is switched off.

Preglowing circuit
Preglowing can take place in two ways:
- manual control
- automatic
Manually controlled preglowing
If the spring-loaded switch of the glowing
system (C703) is activated in the manual control
position, then a voltage will be present on
connection point 44. This results in connection
point 3 being earthed, causing the relay (G014)
to be activated.
The relay remains activated as long as the
switch is depressed, although never longer than
90 seconds.
A cooling time of 90 seconds follows after these
30 seconds, after which the relay (G014) can be
re-activated.

 9810 2-17
CTE-3
Control functions 65/75/85CF series

Automatic preglowing
If the spring-loaded switch of the glowing
system (C703) is activated briefly once in the
automatic position, then a voltage will be
present on connection point 16.
This results in connection point 3 being earthed
for a certain time, causing the relay (G014) to
be activated.
Automatic preglowing is set at the factory to
45 seconds, although a different setting is
2 possible by using DAVIE 2.0.
The automatic glowing time will be interrupted if
the spring-loaded switch is set to the “Manual
control” preglowing position during automatic
preglowing.
Prolonged glowing
Prolonged glowing is started approx. 3 seconds
after loss of voltage at connection point 45
(start signal).
Prolonged glowing only takes place if:
- preglowing has taken place (either manual
or automatic);
- the engine speed exceeds
approx. 400 rpm.;
- the supply voltage (battery voltage) to the
CTE unit exceeds approx. 17 V.
During prolonged glowing the CTE-3 unit checks
both the engine speed and the supply voltage.
If the engine speed falls below approx. 400 rpm
or if the supply voltage (battery voltage) falls
below approx. 17 V, the prolonged glowing will
be interrupted.
Prolonged glowing is set at the factory to
120 seconds, although a different setting is
possible by using DAVIE 2.0.

3. INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT

3.1 POINTS FOR SPECIAL
ATTENTION WHEN CHECKING
THE SYSTEM

1. The location of the fault can be checked in

a simple manner by making a
through-connection and/or carrying out
measurements on the connector.
When a measured value is reported in the
control table, then a connection must be
2
made with the multimeter.
If no measured value is reported, then a
through-connection must be made.

2. To avoid damaging the connector

connections, the measurements and
through-connections must be carried
out/made on the rear side of the connector.
Note:
If the connector cover is removed,
before installing the connector on the
unit the vehicle contact must be off and
fuse E 108 (fuse in front of the contact)
must be removed to prevent a short
circuit during installation.

W502006

3. When making a through-connection use a

“fused” cable. 5

4. Always check the power supply and earth

connections of the CTE-3 unit first.

W502002

 9810 3-1
CTE-3
Inspection and adjustment 65/75/85CF series

5. The readings given in the tables were

measured using the Fluke-87 multimeter.
The values may differ slightly if a different
type/make of multimeter is used!
6. After modifying the CTE-3 unit the
parameters must be entered with the aid of
DAVIE 2.0.
7. Wait at least two minutes after switching off
the contact (in connection with control of
2 the engine brake valve) before removing
the battery earth cable or the connector of
the CTE-3 unit.

3.15 CHECKING THE ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL

Note:
- The most accurate form of measurement is
measuring the Duty Cycle (%). This form of
measurement must be used wherever
possible.
Another form of measurement is measuring
the average voltage. However, little value
can be attached to the readings taken
2 according to this method.
- To select the multimeter functions see the
multimeter instructions for use.
Duty cycle
1. Switch on the vehicle contact.
2. Connect the multimeter, one measuring pin
on the connection point of the speed signal,
and the other measuring pin on the earth
connection point.
3. Select the Duty Cycle function (%) on the
multimeter and the 40 volt DC function.
4. Start the engine and increase the engine
speed to 1000 rpm.
5. The reading shown on the multimeter
should be 25%.
6. As the speed increases or decreases the
percentage of the readings will rise or fall.
Average voltage
1. Switch on the vehicle contact.
2. Connect the multimeter, one measuring pin
on the connection point of the speed signal,
and the other measuring pin on the earth
connection point.
3. Select the function 40 volt DC on the
multimeter.
4. Start the engine and increase the engine
speed to 1000 rpm.
5. The multimeter will then give a reading of
approx. 7 volt.
6. As the speed increases or decreases the
percentage of the readings will rise or fall.

4. SYSTEM CHECKS WITH DAVIE 2.0

4.1 INTRODUCTION

The components of the electronic system can

be checked for errors using DAVIE 2.0.
In the instructions manual (in the DAVIE case) a
detailed explanation is given of how to work with
DAVIE 2.0.
The entire system can be checked in a simple
manner with the aid of the instructions manual.
The checking procedures that need to be more
2
closely explained, are further described in this
chapter.
Note:
The screens described in the explanatory notes
are subject to change.

4.2 PROGRAMMING PARAMETERS

After renewing the CTE unit, the subsequent

removal or installation of E-gas or speed limiter,
or installation of a gearbox with a different
reduction, parameters must be entered with the
aid of DAVIE.
Individual parameters
If the vehicle is fitted with a splitter box or a
deviant type of gearbox - or if the standard
preglowing time has to be changed - then
individual parameters to be entered must be
selected.
Note:
In the overview screen of the individual
parameters the parameters are also shown that
have already been entered previously via
programming of a parameter.
In the menu program “Enter parameters”
selection can be made from 5 different
parameters:
- enter preglowing
- enter gearbox single-H-safety frequency
- enter prolonged glowing
- setting equipment
- enter gearbox gate safety frequency

1. GENERAL
1.1 INTRODUCTION

CTE means: Central Timer Unit

The 3 indicates that this is variant 3.
The CTE-3 model has the following functions:
- operates the direction indicator lamps
- operates the windscreen
wash-wipe/intermittent wipe system
- operates the headlight cleaner system
- operates the glow system
- operates the single-H-safety and gearbox

-
gate safety
amplifies the vehicle speed signal 3
- delays the switching off of the cab lighting
- operates the engine brake valve
- switches off the vehicle speed control
The control options of the unit are indicated
above.
Depending on the vehicle model however it can
be the case that various systems are not
provided.

Speed I
If windscreen wiper switch (C776) is set to
position I, voltage will be present on connection
point 21.
The relay (G237) is then activated because
connection point 23 is earthed.
Speed II
If windscreen wiper switch (C776) is set to
position II, voltage will be present on connection
point 46.
Relay (G237) and relay (G236) are then
activated because connection points 23 and 52
are earthed.

 9810 2-1
CTE-3
Control functions 95XF series

Intermittent wipe
Voltage is set on connection point 49 via
windscreen wiper switch (C776).
The relay (G237) is then activated because
connection point 23 is earthed.
If the power supply is connected to connection
point 40 via the cut-off switch, the earth is
broken to connection point 23, through which
the relay (G237) is no longer activated.
If connection point 40 is earthed via the cut-off
switch, connection point 23 will be earthed again
after a few seconds, through which the relay
(G237) is re-activated. This means that the
cycle begins once more.
3 Wipe/wash
If voltage is present on connection point 20, via
windscreen wiper switch (C776), for a minimum
of one second and is then disengaged
(windscreen wiper switch C776 no longer
active), connection point 23 will be earthed for a
certain time.
As a result, relay (G237) is activated.
Note:
If voltage is present on the CTE unit for speed
I/speed II or in the intermittent position and the
windscreen wiper motor does not turn (due to
faulty fuse for example), then the activation of
the relay will disengage after approx. 1 second.
The windscreen wiper switch (C776) must first
be switched again to the “0” position before the
windscreen wiper motor (B000) can be
controlled once more via the relay (G236 and
G237).
Headlight cleaner
If lighting switch (C622) is activated
(position I or II), a voltage will be present on the
headlight cleaner relay (G238).
If a voltage is applied to connection pin 20 for at
least 1 second (engaging the windscreen
cleaner pump B001), relay G238 is connected to
earth for approx. 1 second, causing the
headlight cleaner pump motor (B002) to be
activated for approx. 1 second.

General
The system that is fitted here is of the
3 + 3 type. That means:
- 3 lamps on the tractive unit, and
- 3 lamps on the trailer
All lamps must be 24 volt - 21 watt for the
correct functioning of the system.
The two warning lamps on the instrument panel,
one for the tractive unit and one for trailer, will
flash in unison when functioning correctly. These
lamps will not illuminate when there is a fault if
the installation is switched on.
A fault can be caused by:
- overload
- underload

 9810 2-3
CTE-3
Control functions 95XF series

Overload
- more than 4 lamps per side are connected
to the tractive unit;
- more than 3 lamps per side are connected
to the trailer;
- short circuit.
Consequence:
- warning lamp on the instrument panel does
not illuminate;
- direction indicator lamps do not illuminate
on the side concerned.
Note:
The safety may already come on with 4 lamps,
3 but will certainly switch on if 5 lamps are
connected to one side. The unit will correct itself
3 seconds after the overload has been relieved.
Underload
- less than 3 lamps illuminate per side on the
tractive unit;
- no lamps illuminate on either side of the
tractive unit.
Consequence:
- warning lamp on the instrument panel does
not illuminate.
DIRECTION INDICATORS
Left
When the direction indicator switch (C775) is
operated to the left, then the supply voltage is
connected through to connection point 53 of the
CTE-3. The CTE-3 will consequently emit a
signal via connection point 4 and 2. Also, if there
is a pulse on connection points 4 and 2 of the
CTE-3, these lamps will briefly illuminate.

When the direction indicator switch (C755) is
operated to the right, then the supply voltage is
connected through to connection point 24 of the
CTE-3. The CTE-3 will consequently emit a
signal via connection point 31 and 30. Also, if
there is a pulse on connection points 31 and 30
of the CTE-3, these lamps will briefly illuminate.

2-4 9810
CTE-3

The CTE-3 will also emit a signal to the

instrument panel (D852), connection point 7 and
34. The warning lamp of the tractive vehicle will
illuminate and the tick relay activated when the
direction indicator system is working correctly.
WARNING LAMPS
A supply voltage is present on the
warning/direction indicator lamp switch (C765)
via fuse (E108).
By then activating the warning/direction indicator
lamp switch (C765), the supply voltage will be
applied to connection point 37 of the CTE-3.
The CTE-3 will then deliver a pulse via
connection points 4 - 2 - 31 and 30, so that
3
these lamps will illuminate simultaneously.
The warning lights also work when the contact is
switched off.

If the co-driver’s side door is opened, a voltage

will be present on connection point 17 via door
switch (E514).
This means voltage will be present on
connection point 27, through which the interior
lighting will illuminate.
When the co-driver’s side door is closed, a
current is no longer present on connection
point 17. From this moment connection point 27
is connected for approx. another 9 seconds to
the supply voltage.
If the vehicle is immediately driven after the door
is closed then the delay will be directly
disactivated by the incoming speed signal on

out.

- Electronic unit for Voith retarder 133-2

- Electronic unit for ZF intarder (D587)
- Electronic unit for ECAS-2 (D802 or D851)
- Electronic unit for CWS-2 (D853)
Note:
- The incoming speed signal (connection

- The outgoing speed signal (connection
point 19) is a square-wave voltage.

Single-H-safety
A single-H-safety has been incorporated in the
CTE-3. This protects the gearbox against
changing down into a lower gear incorrectly.
If you want to change down from the high group
to the low group, and the vehicle speed is still
too high, then changing down will be blocked.
The vehicle speed signal is present on
connection point 18. If the vehicle speed is
lower than a certain value (this value depends
on the engine type and gearbox model),
connection point 51 will be earthed.
This results in the single-H-safety valve (B079)
being activated, meaning changing down to the
low group is possible.
If the vehicle speed becomes too high, the earth
connection to connection point 51 will be
broken, meaning it is no longer possible to shift
gear to a lower group.

2-8 9810
CTE-3
95XF series Control functions

Gearbox gate safety

A gearbox gate safety has been incorporated in
the CTE-3. The gate safety only operates in the
low group. It prevents the gearbox from being
shifted down from third or fourth gear (gate 3-4)
to first or second gear (gate 1-2) if the vehicle
speed is too high.
This shifting error occurs if the driver fails to
switch the group switch over to the high group
with the gear lever before shifting from fourth to
fifth gear.
The vehicle speed signal is present on
connection point 18. If the vehicle speed is
lower than a certain value (this value depends
on the engine type and gearbox model),
3
connection point 26 will be connected with the
supply voltage. This results in the gearbox gate
safety being activated, meaning shifting down to
the first or second gear is possible.
If the vehicle speed becomes too high, the
supply voltage of connection point 26 will be
broken, meaning it is no longer possible to shift
a gear down to the first or second gear.
Note:
- The vehicle speed signal on connection
point 18 is a square-wave voltage.
- The moment at which the shift-down safety
and the gearbox gate safety must be active,
is programmed into the unit with the aid of
DAVIE-2.0.

the E-gas unit will send a pulsating signal to
connection point 43 of the CTE unit.
This means that connection point 55 is
connected to the supply voltage in pulses, so
that the engine brake valve is controlled in
pulses.
An adjustment of the engine speed then takes
place of approx. 1000 rpm. The adjusted engine
speed is “checked” by the E-gas unit because it
also receives feedback from the engine speed
signal.
The E-gas unit also checks the wiring to

3. INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT

3.1 IMPORTANT POINTS OF
ATTENTION WHEN CHECKING
THE SYSTEM

1. The location of the fault can be checked in

a simple manner by making a
through-connection and/or carrying out
measurements on the connector.
When a measured value is reported in the
control table, then a connection must be
made with the multimeter.
If no measured value is reported, then a
through-connection must be made.
3

2. To avoid damaging the connector

connections, the measurements and
through-connections must be carried
out/made on the rear side of the connector.
Note:
If the connector cover is removed, when
installing the connector on the unit the
vehicle contact and fuse E 108 must
(fuse in front of the contact) first be
removed to prevent a short circuit
during installation.

W502006

3. When making a through-connection use a

“fused” cable. 5

4. Always check the power supply and earth

connections of the CTE-3 unit first. W502002

 9810 3-1
CTE-3
Inspection and adjustment 95XF series

5. The readings given in the tables were

measured using the Fluke-87 multimeter.
The values may differ slightly if a different
type/make of multimeter is used!
6. After modifying the CTE-3 unit the
parameters must be entered with the aid of
DAVIE 2.0.
7. Wait at least two minutes after switching off
the contact (in connection with control of
the engine brake valve) before removing
the battery earth cable or the connector of
the CTE-3 unit.

3.14 CHECKING THE ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL

Note:
- The most accurate form of measurement is
measuring the Duty Cycle (%). This form of
measurement must be used wherever
possible. Another form of measurement is
measuring the average voltage. However,
little value can be attached to the readings
taken according to this method.
- To select the multimeter functions see the
multimeter instructions for use.
Duty cycle
1. Switch on the vehicle contact.
3
2. Connect the multimeter, one measuring pin
on the connection point of the speed signal,
and the other measuring pin on the earth
connection point.
3. Select the Duty Cycle function (%) on the
multimeter and the 40 volt DC function.
4. Start the engine and increase the engine
speed to 1000 rpm.
5. The reading shown on the multimeter
should be 25%.
6. As the speed increases or decreases the
percentage of the readings will rise or fall.
Average voltage
1. Switch on the vehicle contact.
2. Connect the multimeter, one measuring pin
on the connection point of the speed signal,
and the other measuring pin on the earth
connection point.
3. Select the function 40 volt DC on the
multimeter.
4. Start the engine and increase the engine
speed to 1000 rpm.
5. The multimeter will then give a reading of
approx. 7 volt.
6. As the speed increases or decreases the
percentage of the readings will rise or fall.

3 Duty cycle
1. Switch on the vehicle contact and connect
DELSI.
2. Connect the multimeter, one measuring pin
on the connection point of the vehicle speed
signal, and the other measuring pin on the
earth connection point.
3. Select the Duty Cycle function (%) on the
multimeter and the 40 volt DC function.
4. Switch the contact on and using DELSI
stimulate a vehicle speed of 50 km/h.
5. The reading shown on the multimeter
should be 22%.
6. As the vehicle speed increases or
decreases the percentage of the readings
will rise or fall.
Average voltage
1. Switch on the vehicle contact and connect
DELSI.
2. Connect the multimeter, one measuring pin
on the connection point of the vehicle speed
signal, and the other measuring pin on the
earth connection point.
3. Select the function 40 volt DC on the
multimeter.
4. Switch the contact on and using DELSI
stimulate a vehicle speed of 50 km/h.
5. The multimeter will then give a reading of
approx. 2 volt.
6. As the vehicle speed increases or
decreases the percentage of the readings
will rise or fall.

4. SYSTEM CHECKS WITH DAVIE 2.0

4.1 INTRODUCTION

The components of the electronic system can

be checked for errors using DAVIE 2.0.
In the instructions manual (in the DAVIE case)
detailed explanation is given of how to work with
DAVIE 2.0.
The entire system can be checked in a simple
manner with the aid of the instructions manual.
The checking procedures that need to be more
closely explained, are further described in this
chapter.
Note: 3
The screens described in the explanatory notes
are subject to change.

4.2 PROGRAMMING PARAMETERS

After renewing the CTE unit, the subsequent

removal or installation of E-gas or speed limiter,
or installing a gearbox with a different reduction,
parameters must be entered with the aid of
DAVIE.
Individual parameters
If the vehicle is fitted with a splitter box or a
deviant type of gearbox - or if the standard
preglowing time has to be changed - then
individual parameters must be selected to be
entered.
Note:
In the overview screen of the individual
parameters the parameters are also shown that
have already been entered previously via
programming of a parameter.
In the menu program “Enter parameters”
selection can be made from 5 different
parameters:
- enter preglowing
- enter gearbox single-H-safety frequency
- enter prolonged glowing
- setting equipment
- enter gearbox gate safety frequency
