make more than $100 million at the box office, the first time a woman had ever directed two $100-million films.
A recent report was made by the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film: 30% of all creators,
directors, writers, producers, executive producers, editors, and directors of photography…are women (2020).
Does this surprise you? Are men more creative than women?
Interviewer Hello, listening audience! I know you’ve been waiting for this all day … and now, tonight.
I’m very happy to introduce …Macy Ames!
Macy Good afternoon … uh, evening!
Interviewer So, Macy. All of your movies are shot in different cities, right?
Macy That’s right. I think it’s important to make movies about places you know. For example, the
movie I’ve just finished was made in New York City—I went to university there. And my first
movie was made in Glasgow, which is where my husband’s from. My next movie will be
made in Brasília—I’ve been there on vacation a few times.
Interviewer Great. Do you have any plans to shoot a movie here in Canada?
Macy Yes, perhaps a sequel. My best friend’s Canadian. Sadly, I won’t get to see her on this visit—
she’s working in Europe. I tried to meet up with her mum and dad last night, but they were
busy. However, I had dinner with her Uncle Ted and his son, Jason.
Interviewer You haven’t told us where you call “home”!
Macy Well, I spend so much time traveling, that I don’t get back to Wales very often. I seem to be
in big cities all the time. It’s sad, really, because when I’m not working, there’s nothing I
like better than sitting in my farmhouse enjoying an exciting novel.
Interviewer All of your movies have amazing soundtracks. Are you a musician?
Macy Not many critics would say that, no! To tell the truth, I thought about being a musician, but it
didn’t work out. When I was a student, I was hired to sing and play guitar in a café. During
the show, I was playing, but no one was listening. I found out later it was because the
microphone I was singing into wasn’t turned on!
Interviewer No! So, can I ask you where you get your scripts?
Macy I go to one of those “publish-your-own-book” websites! No, but seriously—if it were only
that easy, I’d write the scripts myself! I’d say ninety percent of my movies are written by
experienced people—people who’ve had at least one hit movie.
Interviewer OK! So, can you tell us what your next movie will be about?
Macy Good question! I think I want to focus on the 18th century. Perhaps a movie about a wealthy
family—a family with lots of old secrets. Nothing scary, though. I never make movies to frighten
people. I want them to enjoy my movies. You know, like a little kid enjoys watching Spongebob
or Winnie-the-Pooh!

Jenkins: It is a big news story about women making so much money this year. But the more important thing is
the movie and the audience coming together.
Movie Description: Wonder Woman fans will enjoy “Wonder Woman 1984.” It takes place decades after the first
“Wonder Woman.” It’s now the 1980s, and actress Gal Gadot’s superheroine (Wonder Woman) must fight Maxwell
Lord (Pedro Pascal), a greedy business man. Wonder Woman must also fight Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig), who
becomes Cheetah, Wonder Woman’s comic-book rival.

Interviewer: You were paid $9 million dollars to make this movie. That is a record for a female director.
How do you feel about that?
Jenkins: It feels great. It really does. I am somebody who was never paid a lot of money before.
Interviewer: Why did you decide to set this film in the 1980s?
Jenkins: Well, I wanted to make a great movie. But what I really wanted to talk about was what is happening in the
world. I don’t think people care enough about climate change. We humans are about to lose this world. What is wrong
with us humans, when we can’t stop wanting more and more and more? We will all have a hard time changing our
lives, but if we don’t, we’re going to lose everything. So, there is no better setting for this movie than the ’80s.
