Was sind Personalpronomen?
- Words used to replace a noun/s in a sentence.
SINGULAR PLURAL

REMEMBER!
- Personal pronouns “er”, “sie” and “es” depend on the gender of
the noun that you are replacing.
- The personal pronouns used for all the above examples will depend ONLY
on their gender, and not on whether they are living or non-living.
- THUS: Both Der Mann and Der Tisch are replaced by the personal
pronoun “er”.
Both Die Frau and Die Tasche are replaced by the personal
pronoun “sie”.
Both Das Kind and Das Handy are replaced by the personal
pronoun “es”.
EXAMPLES
Der Mann (living being) kauft Gemüse. Er kauft Gemüse.
Der Tisch (non-living thing) ist alt. Er ist alt.
For e.g.: Der Mann spielt Fussball. Ich sehe den Mann.
Der Mann – Subjekt Den Mann – Direkter Objekt
(Wer spielt Fussball?) (Wen siehst du?)
Der Professor gibt den Studenten Übungen. Der Professor gibt ihnen Übungen.
Der Kuchen schmeckt meinem Sohn gut. Der Kuchen schmeckt ihm gut.
REMEMBER!
Replace the nominative nouns (subject) with nominative
personal pronouns.
Ask the question WEM? (to whom, for whom) to the verb to
identify the indirect object.
