7 Slide
A toothed belt on a hollow drive shaft converts the rotary movement of a motor
into a linear movement. The inner slide 7 then moves backwards and forwards.
The slide is bearing mounted. The reference position for the slide can be detected
using proximity switched in the grooves aJ.
The EGC−...−TB−KF−... toothed belt axis is
intended to be used to quickly position
useful loads. It is approved for slide opera
ting mode.
Fig.2: Slide operation
Note
The EGC−...−TB−KF−... toothed belt axis is not fitted with a brake: When input
torque is not applied, the slide can be moved freely.
Generally automatic locking of the entire system can be achieved using motors
with integrated spring−loaded holding brake or with high self−braking torque
(e.g.for vertical operation).
S Take into account the weight of the product. Depending on the version,
the EGC can weigh up to 350 kg.
Warning
Masses moving unexpectedly at speed can cause personal injury and material
damage (crushing).
S Apply power to the drive motor, at first limited to low speeds and torques.
Note
Malfunctions will occur if the device is not used correctly.
S Ensure that the specifications in this chapter are always observed.
5 Installation
Fig.3
Installing the product:
Note
Heavy tensile loads may cause the screws in the cover to be pulled out.
S Please note that in the case of heavy loadings the axis must not be
fastened only by the bearing cap.
Note
Unsuitable mounting techniques can reduce the service life of the EGC conside
rably.
S Make sure that the mounting components are outside the positioning range
of the slide.
Foot mounting on the Profile mounting in the Slot nut mounting in the
mounting threads 1 groove of the mounting groove aA. When tilted
(è Fig.1) in the end surface 8 the slot nuts slide into
covers the groove at each point
on the profile
(on EGC−50: insert the
slot nuts sideways)
Fig.5
S Tighten the mounting screws evenly with the following tightening torque.
Fig.6
Warning
Masses falling suddenly can cause personal
injury and material damage (crushing). If
there is a power failure or if the toothed belt
breaks, the work load will slide down.
S Make sure that you only use motors with Fig.7
an integrated spring−loaded holding brake.
S Check whether external safety measures
are necessary to prevent the toothed belt
from breaking (e.g.toothed latches,
moving bolts or an emergency buffer).

Fig.13
Note
If used in safety−relevant applications additional measures are necessary.
In Europe, e.g. the standards listed in the EC machine directive, must be
observed.
Without additional measures in accordance with statutory minimum
requirements, the product is not suitable for use in safety−related sections
of control systems.
6 Commissioning
Warning
Moving masses can cause personal injury and
material damage (crushing).
S Make sure that:
nobody can place his/her hand in the
positioning range of parts (e.g.using a
protective crate). Fig.14
there are no objects in the positioning
range.
It should not be possible to touch the EGC
until the mass has come to a complete stand.
Note
The elasticity of the toothed belt decelerated the acceleration performance
of the EGC and causes accelerations which are greater than those set on the
controller (spring effect).
S Take into account the possible fluctuations compared to the acceleration set
on the controller.

7 Operation
Warning
Moving masses can cause personal injury and material damage.
S Make sure that:
nobody can place his/her hand in the path of the moving parts
(e.g.by means of a protective screen),
there are no objects in the positioning range.
It should not be possible to touch the EGC until the mass has come to a
complete stand.
Note
When the motor is removed (e.g. turning
the motor) the reference position is lost.
S Start a homing run as detailed in the
chapter 6 Commissioning" in order to
set the new reference position.
Fig.16
Warning
Moving masses can cause personal injury and material damage.
Note
The lubrication intervals Sint depend on the actual stress on the EGC.
S Shorten the lubrication intervals Sint (è Fig.18) to half the length in case of:
Dusty and dirty environments
Nominal strokes>2000mm
Speeds>2m/s
Travel profile Z triangular operation (frequent acceleration and braking)
Ambient temperatures>40°C
EGC which has been in operation>3years.
Fig.17
9 Repairs
Note
If the tension of the toothed belt is increased, its service life will be considera
bly reduced. In addition, the technical data, e.g. the feed constant, will be mo
dified.
S Make sure that the tension of the toothed belt has not been increased.
The toothed belt is pretensioned so that it does not have to be re−tensioned
during its service life.
