Hinweise zur Ausführung / Notes on Performance

1. vibrato
Generell ist non vibr. zu spielen. "vibr." gilt immer nur für den bezeichneten Ton.
Generally the work should be played non vibrato. "vibr. "applies only to the referred note.

2. Vorzeichen / accidentals
Das Stück ist in Vierteltönen notiert. Mir ist bewust, dass Intonation und Klangfarbe in enger Bezichung
zueinander stehen. Es sollen also in jedem Fall die am besten klingenden Griffe gewählt werden. Das
Stimmgerät ist kein Garant füir einen guten Klang. Vorzeichen mit Pfeilen bezeichnen je nach Kontext
Sechstel- oder Achteltöne. Meist ist das aus den linearen Fortschreitungen gut zu erkennen. Das Vorzeichen
mit Pfeil nach unten bezeichnet in den Stücken Speicher 1-V für gewöhnlich den 7. Naturton. Die Vorzeichen
gelten immer für den ganzen Takt, egal ob Erinnerungsvorzeichen gesetzl sind oder nicht.

This composition uses quarter-tones. I am fully aware that intonation and timbre are very closely connected.
The players are to use the fingerings which sound best. A tuningfork does not guarantee the best sound.
Accidentals with arrows indicate either sixth- or eighth-tones, depending on the context. Mostly this is evident

from the linear progression of the music. The accidental with an arrow facing downwards usually indicates
the seventh harmonic in Speicher -V Accidentals always last for the entire bar, with or without cautionar
accidentals.

3. glissando
Es gibt drei Arten von glissando: / There are three types ofglissandos used:

oder/ or Gleichmäßiges, sofort startendes Glissando. Die Anfangsnote ist

stets betont, die Zielnote unbetont zu spielen.
A glissando which starts immediately and is even throughout. The
starting note should be emphasized but the resultant note not.

Glissando mit Hin- und Herbewegungen. Diese Aktion soll wie ein
vergröBertes, rhythmisch exaktes Vibrato aufgefasst werden.
A glissando with a , to " and , f r o " movement. This gesture shouid

be perceived as an enlaged and rhythmically precise vibrato.

Portamento: spät startendes Glissando, das auf den Zielton

gerichtetist. Mit vibrato,,wienerisch.
Portamento: is a glissando which starts late and points to the
resulting note. Play with vibrato, in Viennese style.
