German Grammar Notes

Basic word order: S+V+O

- Ich esse einen Apfel – I eat an apple
Creating a sentence:
+ German word order can be re-arranged; as long as the verb is the second element
She sees the boy everyday
- Sie sieht den Jungen jeden Tag.
- Den Jungen sieht sie jeden Tag.
- Jeden Tag sieht sie den Jungen.
Creating a longer sentence:
+ If there is a dependent clause, the verb will be the last element.
Ich mag Äpfel... weil sie gut schmecken. I like apples.. because they taste good.
Negative sentence:
+ Add “nicht” in the end of a sentence.
Ich schlafe. – I’m sleeping. Ich schlafe nicht. – I’m not sleeping
+ If you want to show you have zero sum of sth, you would add “kein”
Ich habe kein Geld. – I have no money.
Ich have keine Energie. – I have no energy
Formulate Questions:
Sie ist hier. – She is here Ist sie hier? – Is she here?
Sie isst Äpfel. – She eats apples. Isst sie Äpfel? Is she eating apples?

Noun: A thing or an object. Ex:
In German, every noun has a gender
and a number.
+ Number: Singular or plural
+ There being 4 genders,
3 singular and 1 plural
