*1) If condensation water is leaking out of the drain pipes (system connection point: “C34 – drain, charge air cooler” or “C35 – drain, charge air duct”), an adjustment of the engine
operation is required. Please follow the instructions from the Engine Documentation, part 1 "Original Operating Instructions", chapter 6. -> "Engine Operation at High
Absolute Humidity".

*2) In general, a charge air temperature of 45 °C should be maintained. When operating gas engines (M46DF, M34DF and GCM34) at charge air temperatures higher than 45°C, a power
derate may be required to avoid knocking.

*3) If a control valve with wax elements is used for the LT cooling water circuit, there is no direct way to adjust the LT cooling water temperature.

*4) The temperature must be set so that the kinematic viscosity before injection pumps does not exceed 7 mm2/s and not fall below 2 mm²/s.

*5) The temperature must be set so that the kinematic viscosity before injection pumps does not exceed 12 mm2/s. The heavy fuel oil temperature must not exceed 150 °C. The heavy
fuel oil temperature after the final preheater should be approx. 5 °C higher than before injection pumps to compensate the heat loss in the piping.

*6) When changing over the fuel from MDO to HFO or vice versa a maximum fuel temperature gradient of 2 K/min should not be exceeded.

*7) For VM32 E engines the minimum LT water inlet temperature is 38 °C.

Operational Restrictions:
1.0 Normal running
Due to the material properties of rubber, the dynamic torsional stiffness CTdyn of the elastic
coupling varies according to load profile and environmental conditions. The Ctdyn nominal -value is
based on measurements under following conditions: Vibratory Torque Amplitude approx. 20% of
nominal torque; Frequency 10Hz; Surface Temperature of Element 30°C.
For smaller alternating amplitudes that means the CTdyn –value will be increase. But on the other
side at higher surface temperatures the dynamic torsional stiffness will be decrease.
The calculations with the nominal dynamic torsional stiffness Ctdyn nominal shows relatively low
vibratory torque amplitudes. But it can be assumed that the ambient temperature of the coupling
elements and therefore too the surface temperature will be higher than 30°C. Therefore for the
synthesis and natural frequency calculation the nominal dynamic torsional stiffness Ctdyn nominal
was used.
We did not calculate any inadmissible component loads (see attached speed diagrams). No
operational restrictions due to torsional vibration. A safe performance of the system at all
permitted operating conditions is ensured.

Engine minimum speed due to avoid torque reversal in gear 525 rpm
box at passing of resonances in the speed range below :

The barred speed range is ascertained theoretically and has to be checked by sound testing the
gear box during the sea trials.

2.0 Irregular running

This generally means the operation with unbalanced cylinder loads. There are two extreme
cases:

2.1 Misfiring - No injection, but compression fully available in one of the cylinders
General notes:
See Operating Instructions, 7 Emergency Operation (Chapter 7.6 Misfire Operation)
Check the flexible coupling regularly for heating. Permissible surface temperature during
operational misfire approximately 60°C.

Special notes:
In general at this operating condition the elastic coupling is subjected to higher stress due to
higher alternating torques and a higher power losses. The dynamic torsional stiffness and the
relative damping is basically affected by the level of the thermal loading. It is known that the
dynamic torsional stiffness of the elastic rubber elements decreases both at high ambient
temperatures and /or especially at high heat load due to high power loss.

12.11.2019 Sheet 2
Report No.
c Result of Calculation 19025026

However the calculations with the nominal dynamic torsional stiffness shows a relatively small
heat load (power loss) and moderate vibratory amplitudes.
Therefore for the synthesis and natural frequency calculation the nominal dynamic torsional
stiffness Ctdyn nominal was used also at misfire condition.
With this we did not calculate any inadmissible loads in the individual plant components (see
attached speed diagrams). No operational restrictions due to torsional vibration.
In general it must be ensured that the max. fuel rack position does not exceed 100% of the test
bed record value.

2.2 Full failure - No compression, running gear dismantled

General notes:
See Operating Instructions, 7 Emergency Operation (Chapter 7.6)
The possible output and speed at which a damaged engine can be operated, depend on the
system in question and have be found out by touching while speed and output are slowly
increased.
Output and/or speed have to be changed in case of transmission noises and/or high speed
variations occur.
Check the flexible coupling regularly for heating. The surface temperature of the flexible coupling
must not exceed 60°C.
The following approximate limits are recommended. The engine speed should not exceed 80%
of the rated speed. The engine output should approximately 35% of the rated output.

Units of measurement used:

All figures mentioned in this report correspond with the International System of Units (SI Units).
The units of the individual parts of the system are specified in section “Mass Elastic System”.

Equivalent torsional system:

The propulsion plant is substituted by a computable equivalent system, which alternately
consists of moments of inertia and springs. All components are absolute and not converted
according to gear ratio.

Important note:
This torsional vibration calculation has been carried out according to the rules of vibration
engineering to the best of our knowledge and with the assistance of the most modern calculation
aids.
The results and conclusions are only valid as far as the data given are correct, which, however,
can only be influenced by us within our scope of supply.
We recommend our customer to make the torsional vibration calculation available to each
component supplier for checking the correctness of the data and the admissibility of the stresses
to be expected.
Our guaranty is limited to the correction of any computational error and the repair or replacement
of the defective part of the equipment supplied by us. Any other claims are excluded irrespective
of their basis in law.
