c Result of Calculation 19025026
Operational Restrictions:
1.0 Normal running
Due to the material properties of rubber, the dynamic torsional stiffness CTdyn of the elastic
coupling varies according to load profile and environmental conditions. The Ctdyn nominal -value is
based on measurements under following conditions: Vibratory Torque Amplitude approx. 20% of
nominal torque; Frequency 10Hz; Surface Temperature of Element 30°C.
For smaller alternating amplitudes that means the CTdyn –value will be increase. But on the other
side at higher surface temperatures the dynamic torsional stiffness will be decrease.
The calculations with the nominal dynamic torsional stiffness Ctdyn nominal shows relatively low
vibratory torque amplitudes. But it can be assumed that the ambient temperature of the coupling
elements and therefore too the surface temperature will be higher than 30°C. Therefore for the
synthesis and natural frequency calculation the nominal dynamic torsional stiffness Ctdyn nominal
was used.
We did not calculate any inadmissible component loads (see attached speed diagrams). No
operational restrictions due to torsional vibration. A safe performance of the system at all
permitted operating conditions is ensured.
Engine minimum speed due to avoid torque reversal in gear 525 rpm
box at passing of resonances in the speed range below :
The barred speed range is ascertained theoretically and has to be checked by sound testing the
gear box during the sea trials.
2.1 Misfiring - No injection, but compression fully available in one of the cylinders
General notes:
See Operating Instructions, 7 Emergency Operation (Chapter 7.6 Misfire Operation)
Check the flexible coupling regularly for heating. Permissible surface temperature during
operational misfire approximately 60°C.
Special notes:
In general at this operating condition the elastic coupling is subjected to higher stress due to
higher alternating torques and a higher power losses. The dynamic torsional stiffness and the
relative damping is basically affected by the level of the thermal loading. It is known that the
dynamic torsional stiffness of the elastic rubber elements decreases both at high ambient
temperatures and /or especially at high heat load due to high power loss.

c Result of Calculation 19025026
However the calculations with the nominal dynamic torsional stiffness shows a relatively small
heat load (power loss) and moderate vibratory amplitudes.
Therefore for the synthesis and natural frequency calculation the nominal dynamic torsional
stiffness Ctdyn nominal was used also at misfire condition.
With this we did not calculate any inadmissible loads in the individual plant components (see
attached speed diagrams). No operational restrictions due to torsional vibration.
In general it must be ensured that the max. fuel rack position does not exceed 100% of the test
bed record value.
