In der Ballade „Erlkönig“ von Johann Wolfgang
von Goethe bringt ein Vater seinen kranken Sohn
zu einem Arzt.
Der Sohn beschreibt seinen Leidensweg im
Dialog mit seinem Vater, indem er ihm seine
Fieberfantasien mit dem Erlkönig erzählt.
Bei der Ankunft im Hof ist der Sohn bereits
verstorben.
Die Ballade weist acht Strophen auf und hat
jeweils vier Verszeilen.
Die erste und letzte Strophe wird von einem
allwissenden Erzähler gesprochen.
Die andren Strophen Basieren auf einen Dialog
zwischen dem Vater, dem Sohn und dem
Erlkönig.
Es ist bei der ersten und zweiten Verszeile und
bei der dritten und vierten Verszeile jeder
Strophe ein Endreim vorhanden.
Die erste Strophe führt in das Geschehen ein.
Sie besagt, dass der Vater mit seinem Kind noch
ziemlich spät unterwegs ist und sehr besorgt
scheint.
Vermutlich ahnt der Vater, dass das Leben seines
Jungen zu Ende geht.
In der folgenden Strophe erzählt der Sohn
seinem verzweifelten Vater zum ersten Mal vom
Erlkönig.
Dieser versucht ihm Klar zu machen, dass das
was er sieht nur Einbildung sei.
Die nächsten vier Strophen beschreiben wie der
Erlkönig das arme Kind zu sich locken will.
Dieses hat aber Angst vor dem Erlkönig und fragt
seinen Vater ob er ihn nicht auch höre.
Der versuchte ihn zu beruhigen und meint es sei
nur der Wind.
Der Erlkönig gibt jedoch nicht nach und redet
weiter auf den Jungen ein.
Der verliert immer mehr das Bewusstsein und
sieht sogar die Gestalten von denen der Erlkönig
spricht.
Wieder wendet sich der Sohn an seinen Vater
und der erwidert, dass niemand da sei und er die
Ruhe bewahren solle.
In den letzten beiden Strophen spricht der
Erlkönig noch einmal mit dem Jungen.
Er sagt, dass er ihn begehre und ihn mit Gewalt
dem Leben entreißen müsse, wenn er nicht
freiwillig mitkommen würde.
Abermals sucht der Sohn Hilfe bei seinen Vater
doch der kann die Fantasiegestallten seins
Sohnes auch nicht stoppen.

Goethe, a father brings his sick son to a doctor.
The son describes his ordeal in dialogue with his
father by telling him his fever fantasies with the
Erlkönig.
On arrival in the yard, the son has already passed
away.
The ballad has eight stanzas and has four verse
lines each.
The first and last stanza is spoken by an
omniscient narrator.
The other verses are based on a dialogue
between the father, the son and the Erlkönig.
There is a final rhyme in the first and second
verse lines and in the third and fourth verse lines
of each verse.
The first stanza introduces the event.
It says that the father is still late with his child
and seems very worried.
Presumably, the father suspects that the life of
his boy is coming to an end.
In the following stanza, the son tells his
desperate father about the Erlkönig for the first
time.
He tries to make it clear that what he sees is just
imagination.
The next four stanzas describe how the Erlkönig
wants to lure the poor child to himself.
This is afraid of the Erlkönig and asks his father if
he does not hear him.
He tried to calm him down and said it was just
the wind.
The Erlkönig does not give in and continues to
talk to the boy.
He loses consciousness more and more and even
sees the figures of which the Erlkönig speaks.
Again the son turns to his father and he replies
that no one is there and that he should keep
calm.
In the last two stanzas the Erlkönig speaks once
more with the boy.
He says that if he did not come voluntarily, he
would desire him and forcefully take him from
life.
Again, the son seeks help from his father but he
can not stop the fantasies of his son.
Er beeilt sich so schnell er kann den Hof des
Arztes zu errechen, aber als er ankommt ist es zu
spät.
Das Schreckliche ist eingetreten, das Kind ist tot.
Der Autor ist der Meinung, dass sich kein Mensch
dem natürlichen Lauf des Lebens widersetzen
kann und, dass er daher, unmittelbar bevor er in
den Tod geht, um sich das Sterben zu erleichtern,
den Weg dorthin schön und anziehend vorstellt.
He hurries as fast as he can to break the doctor's
yard, but when he arrives it is too late.
The terrible thing has happened, the child is
dead.
The author believes that no human being can
oppose the natural course of life and, therefore,
just before he goes to death to facilitate dying,
he imagines the way to be beautiful and
attractive.
