1 Anwendungsbereich und Zweck 1 Scope and purpose

Dieser Group Standard dient zur einheitlichen Festlegung von
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilung von Oberflächen im
Geschäftsbereich Motorrad inklusive Kooperationen (Auslie-
ferqualität).
Der Group Standard beschreibt die Bewertungszonen und
Bewertungsbedingungen.
Dieser Group Standard ist für die Anwendung im Produktaudit
freigegeben durch die Fachstelle ”Unternehmensqualität;
Produktbewertung”.
Der Group Standard dient nicht zur Festlegung der Warenein-
gangsqualität von Rohteilen, die bei BMW oberflächenbehan-
delt werden.
Der Group Standard gilt zusammen mit GS 97010--2 und GS
97010--4.
This Group Standard serves for uniform definition of the
minimum requirements and assessment of surfaces in the
motorcycle division, including cooperative efforts (delivery
quality).
The Group Standard describes the evaluation zones and the
evaluation conditions.
This Group Standard is released for the application in a
product audit by the specialist department “Corporate Quality;
Product Assessment”.
The Group Standard does not serve to define goods inward
quality of blanks that are surface treated at BMW.
The Group Standard applies together with GS 97010--2 and
GS 97010--4.

2 Normative Verweisungen
Diese Norm enthält Festlegungen aus anderen Publika-
tionen. Diese normativen Verweisungen sind an den jewei-
ligen Stellen im Text zitiert und die Publikationen sind nach-
stehend aufgeführt. Es gilt die letzte Ausgabe der in Bezug
genommenen Publikation.

Zusätzlich muss die Oberflächenbehandlung (z.B. LA Si), so-
wie der Sichtbereich und soweit erforderlich ergänzende Prü-
fungen auf der Zeichnung vermerkt werden.
3.1 Referenzmuster, Erstmuster
Vor SOP sind bei der Designabteilung Referenzteile festzule-
gen, welche alle nicht genannten Spezifikationen in Bezug auf
die Oberflächenausführung in ihrer min./max. Ausprägung
dokumentieren. Diese Referenzteile sind in den Qualitätsstel-
len der Zulieferer und/oder der Fachbereiche bis mindestens
Auslauf Ersatz zu hinterlegen.
ANMERKUNG Damit wird gewährleistet, dass dem Liefe-
ranten eine grundsätzliche Oberflächentechnologie vorge-
schrieben wird, jedoch innerhalb einer PV (Prozessvor-
schrift) der Handlungsspielraum bestehen bleibt. Deswei-
teren dient dieser Eintrag der Entwicklungsabteilung, die
PV stets in die Zeichnung mit einzutragen.
4 Oberflächenmerkmale und deren Bewertung
4.1 Bewertungsbedingungen
Das Fahrzeug befindet sich zur Beurteilung auf dem Haupt-
ständer, bei Fahrzeugen ohne Hauptständer auf der Seiten-
stütze. Das Motorrad muss ebenerdig stehen.
Die Beleuchtungsbedingungen sind entsprechend den Anfor-
derungen für Audit-Prüfplätze vom Funktionsbereich Fahr-
zeugaudit zu wählen.
Das Bewerten und Zählen aller Merkmale, respektive der
zählbaren Merkmale erfolgt aus einer Betrachtungshöhe von
1 m bis 1,8 m über Grund und einem Betrachtungsabstand
von größer 0,5 m, wobei sich das Teil in Einbaulage befinden
soll. Einzelteile werden entsprechend bewertet. Für Felgen
gilt die Regel wie folgt: Sichtkontrolle unter einem äquivalen-
ten Blickwinkel. Die Betrachtungsdauer pro Bewertungszone
bzw. Einzelkomponenten von 10 Sekunden soll nicht über-
schritten werden. Bewertung in Einbaulage gilt nicht für Rä-
der, Bewertung muss bei einer Radumdrehung erfolgen.

3 Drawing entry
The drawing entry is carried out near the title block.
In addition, the surface treatment (e.g. LA Si), as well as the
visual area and supplementary tests to the extent necessary,
must be noted on the drawing.
3.1 Reference samples, initial samples
Prior to SOP reference parts must be determined in the design
department documenting all non-mentioned specifications
with regard to the surface design in their min./max. variance.
These reference parts must be stored at the quality
departments of the supplier and/or the technical departments
at least until the spare parts are discontinued
NOTE Thus, it is ensured that a surface technology has
been prescribed for the supplier on principle, but within a PS
(Process Specification) the scope for action is maintained.
Furthermore, this entry of the development department
serves to always enter the PS in the drawing.
4 Characteristic of surface and their evaluation
4.1 Evaluation conditions
For assessment purposes, the vehicle is located on the center
stand, on the side stand for vehicles without center stands.
The motorcycle must stand on a plane level.
The illumination conditions must be selected according to the
requirements for audit test stations from functional division
Vehicle Audit.
The evaluation and counting of all characteristics or of all
countable characteristics, respectively, is done from a viewing
height of 1 m to 1.8 m above ground level and a viewing
distance of > 0.5 m with the component being fitted as actually
installed on the vehicle. Component parts are evaluated
accordingly. For rims the rule applies as follows: Visual
inspection under an equivalent perspective. An observation
time per evaluation zone and/or component parts of 10
seconds shall not be exceeded. The evaluation in as-installed
position does not apply to wheels. The evaluation must be
performed at one turn of the wheel.

Zur Bestimmung von Merkmalsgrößen kann die Lackprüf-
karte der BMW Group (BMW Teilenummer 51910009484)
verwendet werden. Die Lackprüfkarte dient als Messhilfsmit-
tel, eine Kalibrierung ist nicht erforderlich.

4.2 Bewertungsregeln
Eine erste Verifizierung gegen diesen Group Standard erfolgt
subjektiv, bzw. unter Zuhilfenahme von Hilfsmitteln (z.B.
Lackprüfkarte). Im Zweifelsfall erfolgt eine weitere Verifizie-
rung durch die Fachstellen mit geeigneten Equipment (Mess-
mittel, Messmethoden).
Die im Folgenden angegebenen Werte gelten immer pro Be-
wertungszone.
Die Anzahl / Größe der maximal zulässigen Merkmale bezieht
sich auf die gesamte Sichtzone eines Bauteils. Eine Zone ist
im Allgemeinen begrenzt durch die Bauteilgrenzen bzw.
durch Charakterlinien.
Besteht ein Bauteil in der Außenhaut aus mehreren Bewer-
tungszonen, wie z.B. der Kraftstoffbehälter (Zonen A* und A),
so gelten folgende Regeln:
-- In der höherwertigeren Zone (A*) darf die genannte Maxi-
malanzahl der Punkt-/Linienmerkmale nicht überschritten
werden. D.h. am Beispiel des Kraftstoffbehälters sind in der
Zone A* maximal 2 zählbare Merkmale (2x klein) zulässig und
in der Zone A maximal 2 zählbare Merkmale (1x mittel und 1x
klein oder 2x klein) zulässig.

For the determination of values of characteristics the paint
rating panel of BMW Group (BMW part number
51910009484) may be used. The paint rating panel serves as
measuring aid, a calibration is not required.

4.2 Evaluation rules
A first verification with regard to this Group Standard will be
a subjective one that may include the use of aids (e.g. paint
rating panel). In case of doubt the CoCs must verify the results
by use of suitable equipment (measuring aids/tools,
measuring methods).
The values specified below always apply to each evaluation
zone.
The number / size of the maximum allowed characteristics
refers to the entire visual zone of a component. In general a
zone is defined by the component boundaries and/or
chararacter lines.
If the exterior skin of a component exists of several evaluation
zones, like the fuel tank for example (zones A* and A), the
following rules apply:
-- Within the higher-valued zone (A*) the maximum number of
the spot-/line characteristics must not be exceeded. In the
particular case of example fuel tank in zone A* a maximum of
2 countable characteristics (2x small) is permitted and in zone
A a maximum of 2 countable characteristics (1x medium and
1x small or 2x small) is permitted.

-- Um weiterhin eine BI 8 Bewertung zu vergeben, darf die Ge-
samtmerkmalszahl des Bauteils (Zonen A* und A zusammen)
den Maximalwert der niedrigwertigeren Zone (A) nicht über-
schreiten. D.h. am Kraftstoffbehälter sind 2 Merkmale gemäß
BI 8 zulässig (1x mittel und 1x klein oder 2x klein). Ansonsten
erfolgt mind. ein BI-Index niedriger.
-- Merkmale, die die Funktion oder die Zuverlässigkeit beein-
trächtigen (z.B. Kratzer bis auf das Grundmaterial, Halt von
Anbauteilen nicht gewährleistet, Verletzungsgefahr) sind ge-
nerell nicht zulässig und werden mit BI 4 bewertet.
-- Eine Summierung der in der Matrix aufgeführten Merkmals-
arten ist nur zwischen Punkt- und Linienmerkmalen zulässig.
ANMERKUNG In der Summenspalte wird die maximal zu-
lässige Anzahl für die jeweilige Bewertungszone beschrie-
ben, d.h. die Gesamtsumme der einzelnen Merkmale darf
max. nur so groß sein wie der angegebene Wert in der Sum-
menspalte, ansonsten gilt bei Überschreitung der nächst-
folgenden BI-Index (bei 0 dann BI 7 und bei BI 7 dann BI 6
usw.).
-- Die Bewertung der zählbaren Merkmale erfolgt dreidimen-
sional (x/y/z--Achse).
Es gelten zusätzliche Bedingungen:
Größe: Zulässiger Durchmesser ist inklusive Hof zu bewer-
ten, bei nicht kreisförmigen Merkmalen ist die Länge als
Durchmesser zu werten.
Merkmalshäufigkeit: Im Sichtbereich A*, A und B gilt Abstand
 10 cm, bei einer Unterschreitung dieses Abstandes gilt je-
weils die Halbierung der Werte in Spalte BI 7, im Sichtbereich
C halbiert sich der Abstand auf  5 cm für Merkmalshäufung.
Merkmalsarten können dabei identisch oder unterschiedlich
sein.
Diese Vorgehensweise ist auch bei Abweichungen und Fest-
legungen für Grenzmuster (Anbauteile) in der Zeichnung /
Qualitätsvorschrift anzuwenden.
Im Einzelfall kann bei optischen Merkmalen ohne funktionale
Auswirkung eine abweichende Bewertung von der vorgege-
benen BI Klassifizierung entsprechender Qualitätsvorgaben
nach oben oder nach unten in Abhängigkeit von der jeweiligen
Merkmalsausprägung erfolgen. Im Konfliktfall erfolgt die BI
Bewertung durch die den Maßstab vorgebende Fachstelle
“Unternehmensqualität; Produktbewertung” im Zusammen-
wirken mit den Auditstellen der jeweiligen Werke.

-- In order to maintain evaluation BI 8 the overall number of
characteristics of the component (Zones A* and A combined)
must not exceed the maximum value of the lower-valued zone
(A), i.e. on the fuel tank 2 characteristics according to BI 8 are
permitted (1x medium and 1x small or 2x small). Otherwise,
the evaluation will be at least one BI index lower.
-- Characteristics that impair the function or the reliability (e.g.
scratches down to the base material, fixation of attachment
parts not ensured, risk of injury) are generally not permitted
and must be evaluated with BI 4.
-- Totalling of the types of characteristics listed in the matrix is
accepted between spot and line characteristics only.
NOTE The sum column describes the max. accepted
number for the respective evaluation zone, i.e. the total sum
of the individual characteristics must not exceed the value
given in the sum column. If the values are exceeded the
subsequent BI index applies (at 0 then BI 7, at BI 7 then BI
6 and so on).
-- The evaluation of the countable characteristics shall be
three-dimensional (x/y/z axis).
Following additional conditions apply:
Size: the permitted diameter must be evaluated inclusive
corona, in case of characteristics that are not round the length
shall be taken as diameter.
Frequency of characteristics: In visual zone A*, A and B
spacing  10 cm applies. If this distance is fallen short of a
value half of the value in column BI 7 applies. In visual zone
C this distance is halved to  5 cm for an accumulation of
characteristics. As the type is effected, characteristics may be
identical or different.
This procedure applies also to deviations and definitions of
limit samples (attachment parts) in the drawing / quality
specification.
Bases on the specific quality specifications, particular visual
characteristics without functional effect may deviate upwards
or downwards from the specified BI classification, depending
on the respective specificity / typicality of the characteristic. In
case of a conflict the BI evaluation is performed by the
benchmark-defining specialist department “Corporate
Quality; Product Assessment” in cooperation with the audit
departments of the affected plants.

4.4 Merkmalsbewertung in Abhängigkeit von der
Bewertungszone
0: Kein Merkmal
BI 4: Optisches Merkmal mit Funktionsrelevanz, der die
Langzeitqualität maßgeblich beeinträchtigt (z.B. Korrosions-
gefahr) oder zu Verletzung führen kann.
BI 5: Nicht zumutbare optische oder haptische Merkmals-
ausprägung, die vom Kunden sofort erkennbar ist und Unzu-
friedenheit erzeugt.
BI 6: Optische oder haptische Merkmalsausprägung, die
vom Kunden erkennbar ist. Sensibilisierung auf Merkmale.
BI 7: Die Qualitätswahrnehmung des Kunden ist nicht nen-
nenswert beeinflusst. Qualitätsabweichung vom Soll wird
maßgeblich nur vom Spezialisten erkannt. Hinweis auf Pro-
zessverbesserung/Trenderkennung.
Funktionsrelevante Merkmale (BI 4) werden nachgearbeitet.
Beschreibbare Merkmale, wie z.B. Farbkontraste in exponier-
ter Lage des Merkmals innerhalb der Bewertungszone kön-
nen entsprechend ihrer Ausprägung als kundenrelevante
Merkmale gewertet werden. Wenn diese nachgearbeitet wer-
den, darf keine optische und funktionale Verschlechterung
des Erscheinungsbildes erfolgen.
Funktionsbeeinträchtigende Merkmale (z.B. Kratzer bis auf
das Grundmaterial) sind generell nicht zulässig und werden
mit BI 4 bewertet.
4.5 Neue Technologien und Materialien
Beim Einsatz neuer Technologien bzw. neuer Materialien wer-
den die Anforderungen zunächst in auditrelevanten Qualitäts-
vereinbarungen (AQV) beschrieben. Mit Erlangung der Se-
rienreife können die Inhalte von AQV in diese Norm überführt
werden.
5 Bewertungszonen
Zur Berücksichtigung der unterschiedlichen Sichtbarkeit und
Gewichtung von Merkmalen am Motorrad, wird für die Bewer-
tung das Motorrad in unterschiedliche Bewertungszonen ein-
geteilt.
Grundsätzlich werden 5 Zonen zur Einteilung des Motorrades
verwendet und mit den Buchstaben A*, A, B, C und D bezeich-
net.
Die Bewertungszone A* ist eine mögliche Spezifizierung von
A, die bei der Motorradnutzung permanent im Sichtbereich
liegt (z.B. Tank, Cockpit, Lenker mit Abdeckungen).
Die Bewertungszonen A und B liegen beide im Sichtbereich
und werden durch die segmentspezifische Einteilung ausge-
wiesen.
Als Bewertungszone C werden Flächen beschrieben, die
durch Wegklappen von Elementen (z.B. Sitzbank, Stau-
fachabdeckung, Radiofachdeckel) sichtbar werden bzw. im
zurückgesetzten Sichtbereich liegen.
Die Bewertungszone D gilt für innenliegende bzw. nicht sicht-
bare Bereiche.
Bewertungszonen siehe Abschnitte 5.1 bis 5.4.
Für die grundlegende Zoneneinteilung ist das Motorrad zu
einem der 4 Segmente zuzuordnen:
-- Sport
-- Tour
-- Urban
-- GS/Enduro
4.4 Evaluation of characteristic depending on
the evaluation zone
0: No characteristic
BI 4: Function-relevant visual characteristic that significantly
impairs the long-term quality (e.g. corrosion risk) or may
cause damage.
BI 5: Unacceptable visual or haptic specifity of
characteristics that is immediately recognized by the
customer and leads to dissatisfaction.
BI 6: Visual or haptic specifity of characteristics that can be
recognized by the customer. Sensitization to characteristics.
BI 7: The quality perception by the customer in not notably
impaired. Quality deviation from the target value is only
recognized by a specialist. Indication to improve the process/
trend indication.
Function-relevant characteristics (BI 4) shall be reworked.
Describable characteristics, like color contrasts in exposed
location of the characteristic within the evaluation zone, may
be evaluated as customer-relevant, depending on their
particular characteristics. If these are reworked, optical or
functional impairment of the visual appearance shall not
occur.
Characteristics that impair the function (e.g. scratches down
to the base material) are generally not permissible and are
evaluated BI 4.
4.5 New technologies and materials
The requirements relating to the use of new technologies or
new materials are initially described in the audit-relevant
quality agreements (AQV). On reaching series production
maturity, the contents of AQV are transferred to this Standard.
5 Evaluation zones
In order to take into account the different visibility and
importance of characteristics at the motorcycle, for the
evaluation the motorcycle is classified in different evaluation
zones.
On principle 5 zones are used for the classification of the
motorcycle and are denominated with the letters A*, A, B, C
and D.
Evaluation zone A* is a possible specification of A, which is
permanently visible at the use of the motorcycle (e.g. fuel
tank, cockpit, handle bars with coverings).
Evaluation zones A and B are both located in the visible area
and are characterized by segment-specific classification.
Evaluation zone C is desribed as surface that becomes visible
when elements are folded away (e.g. seat bench, stow-away
tray covers, radio box covers) and/or which are located in the
recessed visual area.
Evaluation zone D applies to areas that are located to the
inside or are not visible.
Evaluation zones refer to section 5.1 bis 5.4.
For the fundamental classification of zones the motorcycle
must be assigned to one of the 4 segments:

Auf Basis der segmentspezifischen Mustervorlage erfolgt im
Rahmen des PEP/Auftragsvergabe, mindestens jedoch 20
Monate vor SOP, eine Motorrad-spezifische Anpassung der
Zoneneinteilung. Die Zoneneinteilung erfolgt gemeinsam zwi-
schen Design, Fachstelle ”Unternehmensqualität; Produkt-
bewertung”, Dekorative Oberfläche, Vertrieb und Fahrzeug-
projekt.
Durch die spezifische Anpassung der Segmentvorlage soll
sichergestellt werden, dass neue Bauteile bzw. Bauteillagen
berücksichtigt werden.
Zur Dokumentation wird eine Motorrad-spezifische Oberflä-
chenliste auf Bauteilebene generiert. Die Einteilung der Bau-
teile in Bewertungszonen erfolgt als Zeichnungseintrag. Die
Dokumentation zur fahrzeugspezifischen Zoneneinteilung
wird auf dem Audit-Server abgelegt und ist damit verbindlich.
Abweichungen von der Zoneneinteilung im Serienablauf sind
durch eine AQV (Allgemeine Qualitätsvereinbarung) zu
regeln.

Based on the segment-specific sample a motorcycle specific
adjustment of the zone classification is made in the course of
PEP/commissioning, at least however 20 months prior to
SOP. Zone classification is carried out jointly between Design,
specialist department “Corporate Quality; Product
Assessment”, Decorative Surface, Sales and Vehicle Project.
The specific adaptation of the segment template serves to
ensure that new components and/or component positions are
taken into account.
For documentation purposes a motorcycle specific surface
list is generated on component level. The classification of the
components into evaluation zones is made as drawing entry.
The documentation for the vehicle-specific zone classification
is stored on the Audit server and is thus binding.
Deviations from the zone classification in the production
process must be regulated by an AQV (general quality
agreement).
