Seine Wochenenden und Ferien am Ort der eigenen Kindheit zu
verbringen, ist nicht jedermanns Sache – es sei denn, der Ort hat
landschaftliche Reize wie dieser: Ein geerbtes Wiesengrundstück
in aussichtsreicher Lage oberhalb von Trebesing, etwa 10 km
nördlich des Millstätter Sees in Kärnten, gab einem Münchner
Bauherrenpaar den Anlass, sich einen Zweitwohnsitz zu errichten.
Wie in ländlichen Regionen üblich, ist die Wiese jedoch nicht nur
Erholungsraum, sondern dient auch dem benachbarten, mittler-
weile vom Cousin der Bauherrin bewirtschafteten Bauernhof als
Kuhweide. Als Baugrund war das Grundstück zwar ausgewiesen,
jedoch liegt es in einem Heilquellenschutzgebiet. Der Neubau
wurde daher mit minimalen Eingriffen ins Gelände errichtet.
The idea of spending weekends and holidays in the place of your
childhood might not appeal to everyone, unless, perhaps, it
could offer such attractive scenery as this location: an inherited
meadow with a wealth of views, located above Trebesing, about
10 km north of the Millstätter See in Carinthia, led a couple from
Munich to build themselves a second home. As in most rural
regions, this meadow is not just a recreation area but also serves
the nearby farm, now run by a cousin of the female client, as a
source of cattle fodder. Although zoned as building land, as
there are medicinal springs nearby the site is a protected area.
Therefore in erecting the new building Morpho-Logic made only
minimal interventions in the terrain. A grid of standard galvanised

Ein Rost aus handelsüblichen, verzinkten Stahlprofilen auf Punkt-
fundamenten trägt den größtenteils vorgefertigten Holzbau mit
knapp 70 m2 Nutzfläche. Nur ein schmaler, etwa 50 m langer Fuß-
weg führt vom Parkplatz hinauf zum Haus; ein Gitterroststeg an
der Längsseite leitet zum Eingang. Im Inneren des Gebäudes
erstreckt sich ein großer, offener Raum über vier gestufte Ebenen.
Einzig das Bad ist mit halbhohen Massivholzwänden und oben
umlaufenden Glasstreifen rundum geschlossen. Der obere,
­schmalere Teil des Baukörpers nimmt die Hangneigung von rund
16° auf. Zwei Treppenkaskaden an den Längswänden verbinden
hier die Ebenen miteinander. Sie fluchten in zwei schmalen, raum-
hohen Fenstern mit Ausblick hangaufwärts. Talwärts löst sich das
Haus wie ein Schanzentisch vom Untergrund. Hier weitet sich der
Wohnraum zu einer überdachten Terrasse, an der kein Geländer
den Blick auf die gegenüberliegende Bergkette im Osten verstellt.
Der abgetreppten Innenraumlandschaft folgend variieren die
Raumhöhen von 2,5 m auf der Schlafebene und großzügigen
3,6 m im Wohnbereich. Auf der Hangseite unterstreicht die weit
über die Dachebene hinaufgezogene Attika die Dynamik des

steel sections on point foundations carries the mostly prefabri-
cated timber building that has a floor area of almost 70 m². Only
a narrow footpath around 50 m long leads from the parking
space on the road up to the house: a metal grating platform at
one side brings you to the entrance. The interior is a large open
space that extends through four stepped levels. The bathroom is
the only room that is enclosed on all sides with half-height solid
wood walls and a continuous strip of glazing above. The upper,
narrower part of the house follows the terrain, which has a slope
of about 16°. Flights of steps along both side walls of the house
connects the levels with each other. They end at the top at two
narrow, full-height windows with a view up the slope. Towards the
valley the house detaches itself from the ground like a ski-jump.
Here the living room opens onto a covered terrace with no rail-
ings that might obstruct the view of the mountain range opposite
in the east. As the room heights follow the stepped interior they
vary from 2.5 m on the sleeping level to a generous 3.6 m in the

Im Holzbau kombinierten die Architekten zwei Konstruktions-
prinzipien miteinander: Außenwände und Boden bestehen aus
vorgefertigten, wärmegedämmten Holztafelelementen, das Dach,
die Innenwände und die erhöhten Podeste im Schlafbereich, dem
Bad und der Küche aus Brettsperrholzplatten. Aufgerichtet wurde
der Holzbau mithilfe eines Autokrans, der über einen temporären
Fahrweg auf das Grundstück gelangte und die Holzelemente von
einem unten an der Straße geparkten Lkw an Ort und Stelle hob.
Auch die Strom- und Wasserleitungen wurden über 50 m von der
Straße ins Haus verlegt. Für behagliche Raumtemperaturen sor-
gen drei Infrarot-Strahlungspaneele, die über der gepolsterten
Sitzbank in der Wohnzimmerdecke integriert sind. JS

In the timber building the architects combined two construc-
tion systems: the external walls and floor are made from prefabri-
cated, themally insulated wood panel elements. The roof, the
internal walls and the raised podiums in the sleeping area, the
bathroom and the kitchen are made of cross laminated timber
panels. The timber building was erected with the help of a mobile
crane, which accessed the site along a ­temporary road and lifted
the wood elements into place from a truck parked on the road
below. The power and water lines were extended more than 50 m
from the road to the house. Three infrared radiant panels inte-
grated in the living room ceiling above the upholstered bench
seat ensure pleasant room temperatures. JS
